I dont know about the dx6i, but you can buy radial bearings to replace the little brass bushes that are currently in the gimbals for the DX7's. I'm presuming they will be the same? Anyone tried this before?

well im not buying another spektrum that for sure.
Why not?? All radios eventually wear out especially the pots and gimbals dude. it's just one of the things that happen. I'm pretty sure that Horizon will repair them for a fraction of the price of a new radio

If you are to buy another transmitter, you should seriously consider moving to Futaba.
With only 2 models in your fleet (?), it is not a massive task to switch over and not as expensive as you might think because you will get good prices when selling your existing receivers.
The benefits are better responsiveness and more robust binding. The recievers are more expensive, but it isn't much relative to the price of a helicopter.
I have an 8FG which offers outstanding value for money (it is actually a 10 channel transmitter apparently) and feels great in the hands, really well balanced.
