  • Mac users help!!!

    Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of help here. Yesterday I finally cracked and surcomed to owning a iMac

Apart from looking, feeling and being just bloody awesome my obvious problem is what route do I go down to run Pheonix on it.

At the moment I'm migrating my old PC to the Mac using VMware Fusion which is a free download trail for 60 days. This I reckon is going to take about 4 days at the speed its going!!!!

I've just been in the apple shop and they said possibly Parallels is better or run boot camp.

Just wondered what you guys are running with your macs to get the best graphic results??

Help would really be appreciated follow Mac'er's
    Cheers Matt

running parallels on mine i cant run phoeinix at higher than medium I would think boot camp would be better as it is native but its not a mac anymore

As already said boot camp is your best bet for optimum settings, if you can put up with running it on medium you should be fine with vmware - I have better results with vmware than with parallels. If you are going to go the virtual machine route you want as much ram as you can afford or as much as the machine can take. Both vmware and parallels will use your boot camp partition as the vm so I would recommend you start by setting up boot camp and then you will have the best of both worlds. Also give the vm priority on processor ram and video memory for best results. HTH

Parallels for me on my iMac runs on full settings no issue, what iMac did you get?

Always as a rule max the ram if you can.

Boot Camp for optimum speed, the others will both work OK on lesser setting but will save a reboot if you want to switch between Mac and PC

I'd say parallels, can use within osx & as mentioned saves rebooting all the time, I have the previous gen iMac with 4gb & it runs fine, so you should have no issues, never liked the idea of bootcamp personally.

Yeah and spend a good few hours every couple of months reinstalling Windows <Insert Flavour here> because it's crashing too much or got so slow it's unusable

Before Callum starts ranting about how good PC's are he needs to remember not everyone is a geek/hacker or has the time to **** around in the registery for hours every week
