  • CSM Lipo Alarm

I have attached my new CSM Lipo Alarm to my Trex. Switch on, and it beeps 4 times, as the manual says.

I thn fly over my usual 7 minutes... no beeping to warn that battery is getting low. But no worries. I called Aurorra and Mike says I can reply on the alarm...

Flew flew flew, then... heli started losing power, and then shuddering. That was enough for me. Set down, and took off the battery to charge... Seems the alarm isn't sounding! The loss of power and the engine slowing and speeding and slowing and speeding in rapid succession, sounds like it's low on power to me!

I haven't put the battery on the charger yet, to get it's %, as it's still warm, but I am pretty sure it will say 3% remaining, yet 3.45 on each cell.. so, the alarm is actually right not to go off, as I think it's set to 3.2v per cell...

So why is it losing power, and stuttering?

Can you set the lipo alarm to go off at a higher voltage?

The motor pulsing is the ESC telling you the pack is about to run out.
You don't want to fly it to that point ideally.

    Cheers,

Rob do you use any type of flight timing or you just guess?

I'm guessing at the mo and getting the packs down to 40%. Should I get something to help or will I just become accustomed to flying times with practice?

Cralis I presume the 3.45V reading you are getting is with no load on the pack, with load on it the voltage will be lower.

Cossie, I time my flights on my good packs I do up to 6 min and on my bad packs I do up to 5:30. I put around 1400mAh-1600mAh back into my 2000mAh so it is not more than 80% of the pack.

I set the down timer on my radio to 5mins, and that is usually around 1600-1700mah to put back into the battery, that is just hovering in the garden, if i am a bit more adventurous in open air, then i have had 6 mins. but put 1800 back in, so probably a bit too long, I guess 5.30 is about tops for me, using 2200 3s batteries

I'm getting the same flight times as Nutz, and putting 1500 back into a 2200 3 cell.
I have a lipo alarm set at 3.2v/cell, it sounded when I pulled full collective at 6.30 minutes on my worst pack (which then said 10% on the cellpro4 and had 1800 put in).
My good packs were up to some pretty hard tick tocks today in the 6th minute and still read 35% when put on charge, and took 1500.
I'm really liking my Maxamps HV 2200 3 cell packs (that didn't get that good a review at trextuning). I got two delivered for £50 and they've done about 20 cycles each now.

Setting a timer is good as it's easy to get caught up in the flying and lose track of how long you've flown

Once you've got 6 or 7 cycles on your packs jim, you can fly them for longer - nice gentle break in for them!

I think the Lipo alarm is getting ditched then, and the count down on my Tx will do the trick. Damn.
