How long does one last? They are more pricey in South Africa... but if one lassts maybe, 100 hours of flight, then I'll live with just 2 backups for now. How long doe they last, and generally, do people have more than one spare in their boxes?

I go through around 6-12 every 6 months between 12 models, there is no life span to them, but if you find you replace it and it goes again, that would be a problem with the engine firing small metal particles (debris) into the plug and damaging the plug at which point you need to strip the engine down to find the cause. Also tuning problems can be glow plug related so sometime I just swap them if I have engine tuning problems and suspect the glow plug.

I normally buy my OS No.8 in packs of 12s and sell 6 of them to a club mate, they last me a long time.

I tend to keep a minimum of 2 spare, there's nothing worse than having to go home from the field just because you have no plugs.

It's difficult to quantify how long a plug lasts as it is dependent on many factors. If you run your engine fairly rich then the plug is likely to last longer. If your tuning is incorrect you can find yourself in the position of blowing a plug every flight, somewhat costly.

As an example, in my first year of flying when I was just hovering and pottering about I don't think I blew a plug all year, but now my engine is tuned more aggressively, I tend to need a new plug every 3 months on average.

Plugs often give an indication of going bad, poor starting is often a common symptom. If you have a glow start with a meter that will give you a good idea as to when the plug is starting to fail

I have a QUK tail and they are good, ,but what I think Moyesboy is getting at is replacing the hub due to stories of the TT being weak at high speed, personally I never had a problem with mine when the head was at 2K, but I changed it for QUK tail hub just on case.

I ordered mine from Z-RC and had it delivered to my door in the UK in less than a week for around £125, they certainly are available to the UK but I agree, not in the UK. It has a lot of benefits over the Quick UK head as the geometry is adjustable and can be very different from the stock head, the Quick UK is really only the stock head in metal and so the feel is very similar.

Thanks for the info chaps, I was recommended to try and get a metal arm for the throttle as a mates heli did the funky chicken and thrashed its self to bits when the throttle arm broke in a crash, not saying it's going to stop it happening when the inevitable happens to mine, but at least I can try.
This is my first nitro heli and I’ve just had my 8th successful hover, unfortunately it's all self teaching with the help of this and other sites, I was even flying the trex around in circuits last night, coor this is fun!! ok I'll shut up now.
