  • Michelin Man - the burger years...

So, I'm thinking about staying warm in the field, and am considering a one-piece thermal type suit
    Shorts will be underneath
Anyone got any pointers on whats good and what's not, etc?

Seen this Fladden suit on ebay, which seems like a very good deal?
    Cheers,
    Rob

When I used to work outside I used to wear these in the winter, has a detachable fleece lining very warm, and you get a pistol holster sewn in as well

Only problem is they do not go up to very big sizes, made for tank crew so no 6 footers.

Unfortunately it is only XXL Rob.
Have you tried the USA listings?

The old boys up our field are always out in the winter at 1200ft above sea level wearing quit lined boiler suits like these:

Shorts not so popular up our way.

Try your local fishing tackle store, I got mine for a similar price locally.

Old ski suits from charity shops work quite well

I got problems finding stuff to fit at the best of times (6' 8")...used to have an all-in-one gortex ski suit from Austria which I foolishly gave away when my back went and i couldn't go skiing any more..unfashionable now and can't find them...

..but I was looking at the pilot suits for parascending on-line and some of those appear to go to my sort of sizes...but would mean a trip to a store to try it on..and NOT cheap....pushing £300

Thermal longjohns and vests work with a balaclava...but it's still the hands. I have yet to fly with my HK tx muff....

In the old days of hang gliding when our harnesses were made of sting and sack cloth, I bought an all in one suit from Ozee. Today we have toasty enclosed harness that zip up tight. I wear my old Ozee to fly helis in the winter - only downside is its bright red so I have to wear something over the top or it melts the snow.

The PG guys are more exposed so they still buy the suits, they are all rich and fashion conscious (eg Bobj) so the prices are a bit steep
Better look at other non aviation outdoor persuits if you want to find cheap warm clothing.

The slop e glider folks are the experts in warm clothing, and some of them are ever so stylish
