If you google "claybar" you will see what it is. It's an automotive product, used for removing contaminants which etch in to the paint, usually road tar, industrial fallout, dust grime etc. The thing is, these contaminants take time to accumulate on a car, and it takes many hours in the sun for them to be baked in to the lacquer. On a Heli, I can't see it as a problem?!? Claybarring a car removes these contaminants and makes the paint finish feel like glass, and makes cleaning the car much easier and quicker in the future. Oh by the way, it's like a lump of plasticine which you rub over the panel with lots of lubricant, usually plenty of water is fine
when finished look at the clay bar and it will have lots o black or dark spots on it if it's done it's job, and the panel will feel like glass, as new

Yup I do my entire car about once every 6 months with it, it's amazing how quickly it builds up again. As you said, can't see the point of it at all on a heli? I simply use a rag and some household multi-surface cleaner. Does the job great!Originally posted by jamiem View PostOh by the way, it's like a lump of plasticine which you rub over the panel with lots of lubricant, usually plenty of water is fine

unlikely tbh, as these are stains. The thing thats important here is that the lacquer on a painted finish never ever sets fully, it's always very slightly viscous, and therefore when the sun gets on it, it allows the contaminants to sink in a little bit - obviously this doesnt happen on a metal surface like a muffler.

You know, there are two sorts of R/C heli owners, there's heli flyers, and the other sort.
An R/C heli shop has to have products to suit both types!
