Personal opinion here but they are the only two I would consider.

Pay a little more and get they YS although they have stopped production of the 50st the 56 so im told is an absolute power house after care is second to none also.

If you like a challenge the Redline 53 is a powerfull little engine although very touchy to tune.

The O.S 50 is a brilliant little engine and so easy to tune and when on song it stays on song. I borrowed a 50 while waiting for my 55 to be returned and it had so much power i was amazed and regret not rebuilding my 50.

I know you asked for other brand engines but the O.S 50 would be my pick as its so easy to tune and very powerfull even if the parts are a little expensive.

        Hi

The Thunder Tiger Redline 53 runs ok but not quite the torque of the 50 Hyper so a long way behind the OS/ALign 55.
YS 56 but can't vouch for spares support and that's about it, which every way you stack it most good heli engines still come out the OS factory in Japan regardless of who's names on the side of it:-)

        Cheers

Thanks. I'll investigate the YS and Redline offerings. I'd heard of Redline but not YS.

I do have an OS55 but it went back to the shop a few weeks ago when the bearing failed and I've not seen it since.

In the meantime I'm not flying my 600 and although perhaps a little extravagant, it may be worth getting a second engine to tide me over. When the 55 does come back I can switch between the two for servicing.

If looking for alternatives then add the novarossi 57, look to 'just engines' for the asp .52 (cheap) the HK .46 (cheaper still) and I've hada bran f*rt over the billet .60 jobbie KME??

..thats a goodly range of options for most pockets! If I was building a cheap beater out of secondhand bits I'd probably try the asp .52 for general hacking about.....

                >'just engines'

Thanks for that - I'm also after a cheap .40 size engine for a plank trainer for my son. Their own brand for 50 quid looks just the ticket.

I witnessed the YS in the 3d+ that Rob Turnbull built earlier in the year. Awesome power and it wasn't even ran in. It's going to be my next engine.

I can echo Ian's thoughts on the redline and unlike Bobj I feel the TT53 has more torque available than the OS50. I run my TT53 with an OS Hyper carb which I modded myself. Easier to tune and stops tuned unlike the TT53 carb
