  • Looking for a new club

Been nearly a year since I moved up to the north and looks like Im heading south again. Mrs has landed a job in High Wycombe so subsequently will be looking for a club within about a month. I have looked on BMFA and seems that clubs nearby have a mix of planks n helis. Ideally I want to join a heli only club if anyone can steer me in the right direction please.

In my time here I have flown with some great guys, Brian (Kamikazi), Davewaddy, Steven Gerard, Chris Walton and met some great lads to Tim (busterboy), Jeff and a couple of others from the Stainburn crew (sorry cant remember there names). Just wanted to say a big thanks to those who have helped me in the club incase I dont get chance to fly with any of you before I go.

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Cheers

We have members as far South as Tring and North London so it's not too far for MK heli, about an hour from Wycombe

There's the "club" I go to, which is at Stokenchurch, about 5 miles from HW, Heli only (plus electric planks as a side line for heli flyers).

You do have to be pretty immune to the general bitching, moaning and bullsh1tting.......but that's pretty worldwide when a group of blokes get together.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

          Slough. 15 mins from HW.

We're a mixed club, but on the rare occasion a lesser spotted planker turns up we get along very well. To be honest from now thru to May you'll only ever get helis down there and we've just managed to get an extension to the flying hours so can fly seven days a week.

Either I drive really slowly (and I don't !) or the estimated journey times for HW to Slough AND HW to Milton Keynes are way out.

It can take 30 mins to get one side of HW to the other on a Saturday morning !, ditto for Slough

The Watford club has a dedicated heli patch at the M1/M25 junction - less than 30 mins from High Wycombe. Amiable bunch, everything from beginners to the current National Champ!

Thanks for all your replies so far. Shame about MK waveydavey just a little further than I was wanting to travel to fly regular. Also could anyone tell me the flying times for the clubs nearer HW please.

Been spoilt with this club (fly at any time even dark) and DMHC 10 til 7 every day. Ideal world I'd like the option of flying 7 days a week if poss, tho no biggy if not as I got a 450 for a local park.

                  Cheers

The only restriction at Watford is that you are not *supposed* to fly unaccompanied. The safety person doesn't have to be a heli flyer, or even a club member - just someone who can call the emergency services if you decapitate yourself! (The site is a little isolated!)

Other than that, you can fly pretty much when you want!

I wasnt talking about trying to get from one side of High Wycombe to the other, ditto for Slough. I was talking about HW to Slough. Sure it will take ages if you drive round in circles in High Wycombe and then drive round in circles in Slough I'm sorry I didnt factor that into my guestimate!

Because the OP didnt give me the exact coordinates of his new house I was basing it on my mates house which is on London Road in High Wycombe. Using his postcode and the Church on the corner of our field its a distance of 16.1 miles. About 11 of those miles are on the motorway with a 70mph limit, the remainder on duel carriagways with speeds between 40mph and 60mph. So maybe I should have said 16 minutes, 38 seconds. but I just thought it'd be easier to give the fella a rough idea of where we are.

However just for Janek I would ask easypickingsere to furnish me with answers to the following questions so I can more accuratly predict his travel times.

                          1) Exact address?
                          2) Where will you be parking your car in relation to this address?
                          3) What time of day will you be making the journey?
                          4) What day of the week will you be making the journey?
                          5) What will the weather conditions be like when you intend to travel?
                          6) Are you aware of any road works or accidents when you intend to travel?
                          7) Will you be making any stops on route for fuel, snacks or provisions?
                          8) Would you say you usualy drive, 10% over the speed limit, at the speed limit, or 10% below the speed limit on any particular road?
                          9) Do you know where you are going, or are you intending to use Sat Nav or hand held road map?
                          10) Do you have any impairements that cause you to drive erraticly or particularly dangerously?
                          11) Have you recently used any form of recreational drug or alcohol?
                          12) Do you really care enough about the difference between 15 and 20 minutes to actually answer any of the above just to please other people who think that its actually important?

Ok not far from settled in now. We have ended up in Aylesbury. Im hoping to get to visit some of the clubs you lads have listed within the next couple of months. So far I have been content with flying the 450 in the park behind our house tho starting to really miss the smell of nitro.

I'll be in touch with some of you as soon as I am in a position to get out and flying soon I hope.

Many thanks for the replies so far
