  • Trex550 or Trex600esp

Iam very soon going to be in the market for a new heli, I realy fancy giving leccy a try this time as the batts seem so cheap now,
Iam unsure which I should get the 550 or the 600, Which ever I choose it will be flybarless I already have 2 600 nitro,s with RJX heads and beastx I would fit the same if I go 600,

What im unsure about is the flight times from the helis 550 and 600 and what batts are used

Where to get that batts from and which brand

Please dont suggest some other make of heli as I said above it will be a T550 or a T600

The 550 is apparently the heli the 600 should have been.

i'm in the process of deciding as well between a 500 and a 550. the 550 and 600 use the same motor, don't they? and the 550 uses the same head i believe as the 600

Ive got a 550fbl and its just awesome, loads of power beats my mates 600 hands down everytime, its also stable enough to fly slow circuits and practice different manouvers etc etc. Most of the parts are 600 based, so its cheap to crash too. Saying that Ive hit the fllor with it twice and got it back in the air for less than £30 (except blades).

Just a quick note, I had a 500 for 12 months and the 550 is easier and moor stable to fly being a bigger heli !

The 550 is more powerful heli and flight times are longer for the same size lipo.

If it were my choose then it would be the 550,
            Paul.

A friend of mine has the 600 which is a lovely machine, however, after doing plenty of reading I ended up going with the 550 mostly because of the power issues. The 600 is heavier and drains 6s lipos more than the 550. Many people have suggested that the 600 ought to be a 12s beast rather than 6s and there are threads to say how to do this. The 550 uses the same motor as the 600.

I use Align 5200 mAh 40c 6s on mine but they are pricey and you can definitely get away with lower cost ones.

Some folks have had issues with the tail on the 550 - recently rcslopesurfer - see his thread here (an to be fair the 600 I think) you may want to take a look at earlier threads. Mine has been absolutely fine except for adding an SL720 to 3G but if you are going with the beastx then no probs.

The 550 has plenty of presence in the air and seems remarkably similar to the 600 which share a lot of parts.

I think the cost of ownership is a little cheaper for the 550 - primarily because of the lipos and the blades.

                Hope this helps a bit.

                Cheers,
                Simon
