C.V help

hey guys im trying to write a c.v for a certain very well known aeronautical company as a technician.

im struggling with how much info to put in and the overall length of it. 2 pages may be too long.

Just after a few ideas as im not the best at writing things down and i have never tried to apply for such a large company. I keep deleting previous attempts and its putting me off writing the damn thing.

Any help would be very very welcome if i don't get this written sharpish i may lose this opportunity.

I have interviewed thousands of applicants and appointed hundreds for large companies.

Top tip, include things they are not supposed to worry about, like if you have a good atendance record, put that ie
'absence in last 3 years due to sickness - 2 days'

Also embed a small photo of yourself about an inch or so high at the top of the first page. It makes you more personable before they even meet you.

Agree with the good advice above. I would add:

1. Imagine it is your job to look at 100 CVs and whittle it down to the best 10 candidates to interview. What would you want the CVs to look like to help you make the best choice as quickly as you can?

2. Make sure the spelling, grammar and punctuation is perfect. If you're rubbish at it get a mate / relative who is good at it to help you. When it's right, that tells me the candidate understands what is important and makes sure it gets done. Those are the people I want to employ.

I have worked at many local car garages should i list and date them all or just state current job and a brief description of previous jobs in one paragraph.

Ok.. I only ask, as if you wasnt going directly, theres another way to do it so your CV would be top of the pile!

CV Points are already covered by Waded but people vary with terms.. I.e Instead of employment - Experience, or profile - Key strengths & skills but try not to waffle, You could use bullet points and you can sub catorgorise them under "responsibilies & achievements".. Languages is another good one if you do speak another lingo!!

Write a sensible paragraph about your current employment outlining your roles, duties and responsibilities, and then a couple more just by employer name only, going backwards in date order.

The CV only gets you an interview, not a job, and it has to engage the reader enough to ask you in while at the same time not tell them every single last detail of what you've done with your life for the last 20 years. It needs to promote conversation and give the reader clear indications of where to ask you questions - i.e. tell them some of the stuff, but not all of it.

If you list too many jobs (particularly if they tend to be of short time frames) then the immediate response will be that this applicant is a drifter and is non-commital.

What experience do you have in the aviation field, Ian? Are you looking for some form of apprenticeship or training, or are you already qualified?
