Let me tell you a story. This is from a good friend of mine, owner of a reptile store and possibly not entirely true - as with most fishing stories

He used to work many years ago for a big reptile wholesaler in London, didn't have an issue with most of the stock. He could handle venomous snakes no problem, ok with scorpions etc, but spiders he hates. Well one day a goliath bird eating spider got out, 12 inch legspan sucker. He didn't want to catch it, so he went to stand on it. He would pay for it if he had to. As he pressed his foot down on the spider, it pushed back up and try as he might he couldn't squash it. He ran and changed his shorts

Put it like this, it didnt feel like ANY speed was scrubbed off on any corner, What an amazing car, went out in it yesterday and still high on the sound and feel.

Virginia Cheeseman keeps a decent stock of spiders. She is nice to deal with.

I saw that a couple of days ago as well, i literally p**'d my pants! Just come back from Italy as well, where they have some "medium" size spiders, definatly bigger than the average UK ones.

                          Spiders are actually really cool!

They have blood based on a copper complex, rather than the iron-based hemoglobin just about all the rest of the animal kingdom uses!

They have an "open" circulatory system, where the entire body cavity is filled with pressurised blood (hemolymph). This pressure is also what causes their legs to extend, and means they have to drink regularly to keep the pressure up. This is why when you find them dead and dehydrated, their legs are curled up!

Their lungs are formed by layers of closely spaced tissue exposed directly to the air, almost like gills. They're horribly inefficient; combined with their inefficient copper-based blood it's a miracle they survive at all!

At one time I would spend several hours every evening maintaining spiders, it got to the point that it consumed all my spare time. Hobby wise, I also keep leaf insects, frogs (obviously)and a snake

hey that's great! any chance you could sell me a small/medium mexican red knee??? i've been wanting one for AGES but can never find them locally.. or they're way too small (and i've read it takes a while to grow them)
i have at present 2 spiders.
a curly hair that's at least 10yrs old now
a salmon pink (less than 4yrs)
i had a red rump also but that died a while back (male)

do we have any picks of spiders eating stuff like the pigeon that keeps crapping on my car or the cat that craps in the grass but was kind enough to do it in the long grass so the lawn mower finds it. might have to overcome my aracnaphobia if this is possible.

for the big ones can you get harnesses so they cant get out of the garden or under my pillow or are they faithfull like a labrador and dont need a leash.

                              many thanks for your help.

I don't have any right now as I sell on slings when I get them, having said that I will be going to the PRAS breeder's meeting this Sunday so if there are any good ones there I might pick some up, will let you know
