  • Import Tax & Duty UK

Just found out that toy parts are duty free up to a value of $200

Import Duty on Toys | eHow.co.uk

http://www.hobbyking.com always declare there goods as "Toy Parts"

I have been charged import duty on Tools but not heli parts.

I only briefly read the link you posted but isn't it referring to U.S. customs regulations, not the U.K.?

A postman told me £18 is the limit. Also DON'T have it posted to a business address. If you do then you will get charged from the royal mail to clear customs and deliver it

When i bought a heli from china they let me pay with 2 payments, one was for £10 and the other payment was the remainder, they only put the £10 on the invoice/duty paperwork so I avoided taxes

            knock knock...

£18 is the limit below which you will not be charged if VAT would otherwise have been due.

Your other point is misinformation, the Royal Mail or Parcel Force will charge you a customs clearance fee if VAT/Duty is assessed if you use a private address or a business address, it makes no difference.

yeah, i got it a bit wrong with the link.

its a funny thing import tax/duty.

if the toy is plastic construction its a 4.07% rate, if its "other materials" its 0 rated.

i guess alot of it comes down to who looks at the item and what mood they are in ?!

Wasnt there something recently about this customs clearance fee being avoidable because the contract is already in place to deliver the goods from the shop to the destination... as such they should not be able to add charges. Not tried to wriggle out of these myself but maybe next time...

All depends how much you want to fight over £8 or £13.

Some of the logic cited in earlier posts is a bit flawed as you do not have to visit the depot to pay, you can do it on-line or over the phone and once paid they will schedule a delivery next day so you have no 'costs' associated with going to the depot.

Nor do you have to wait for the letter to arrive before you pay so there need be no delays at all if you are watching the tracking as you can phone the depot as soon as it gets there and pay over the phone.

just out of interest what about Lipo batteries, I originally ordered some HK and they arrived fine with no charges. Then I ordered some from HobbyKing and the same again no problems. Should I be cautious as they were from the German warehhouse ? My original order was 2 and I have just ordered another 8 lipos ?

Calculate your import duty in a few quick steps for free | The DutyCalculator

Had a look at this importing from Germany value of $200 and no import duty
Duty and VAT results are nil because you are shipping between two EU countries. However, the seller may include VAT in the price of the goods.

I get charged everytime I order from HK now so unless it's for lipo's or blades I just don't bother.
