hi, am pretty new to helis, brought a 600LE brand new and built it etc and brought a 600 pro second hand, the flybar on the Le is longer than the one that was already on the pro. so what is better or the reasoning for having shorter/longer flybars? many thanks,

But more affected by wind. There is no right or wrong, depends how you want your heli to react to both your inputs and environmental effects.Originally posted by J-S-Q View Post....and putting a longer flybar on my TRex 500 seemed to suggest that this is indeed true.Outrage G5 Flybarless

Yes, but only to a certain point.Originally posted by J-S-Q View PostMy understanding is that longer flybars give faster cyclic AND more stability.
There comes a point at which the flybar becomes too clumbsy and bends/twists too much as it rotates so the benefits of going longer soon diminish. Pretty much every 50 size heli has a flybar about 440mm long as this seems to be the optimum length. 5 years ago or more, there were a few about that were 400mm, but the 10% extra club soon discovered that 440mm was best.
You choice of paddles can make a bigger difference than flybar length, but that's not to say that flybar length isn't important.
It all depends on how you want your heli to behave, and altering flybar lengths and paddles at the field is quite quick and easy so go ahead and experiment.
What's the worst that could happen?

old post but advice needed.
so would a shorter flybar be ok with standard paddles? on a trex 450 se v2.the new flybar i ordered is shorter than the old one so i think its off the pro not se? will this matter much.
thanks for any info.RAPTOR 60

The shorter flybar will make your heli a little more stable, you can still use a short flybar and lighter paddles to speed up the cyclic's again.
Best is to fit the flybar and try the heli and see if it's to your liking, then post if you need/want to change something.Paul.

I think the flybar on the pro is the same length as the SE but there are some slightly shorter ones out there.
In any case the effect of shortening the flybar is that the paddles are not moving quite as fast, so the control
response will be a bit slower. Unless you're doing lots of aerobatics and need the maximum flip/roll rate you
may not really notice the difference (assuming it's just a bit shorter, like a few CM).

Yeah, I have one rotorhead I got from an ebay seller in HK where the flybar is about that much shorter than
the others and I have a pro rotorhead and just compared the flybar to the SE.
In any case it should be fine.
Basically if it's not stable enough in the wind you can always add a pair of flybar weights and if it's
not fast enough in cyclic response you can use more aggressive paddles. I use weights and the KBDD
paddles for a combination of good stability in wind but still have a nice fast response feel.
