  • Lost It - No I Mean Really Lost It!!

OK This is a sad tale but thankfully no one was hurt!

Just been flying at the local field with Ray watching as I flew my 550 in what I class as a normal fashion doing moves I know I can manage.

For some reason the heli got further away than planned and though I seemed to have some control I just couldn't get it to come back toward me, I know I was tail in and trying to bring her back but she wasn't responding and ended up falling through some trees at the far side of the field.

I knew there was a road right about the area it fell out of the sky so it was with a sense of dread that I went searching for the wreckage

Got to the road and was so relieved there was nothing there then Ray and I waded through chest high brambles for ten minutes getting cut to ribbons trying to find the Trex.

When it turned up it was no more than twenty feet or so from the road it had come down through a tree and buried itself in the brambles, no sign of the Lipo or the tail assy but we couldn't see any smoke so it will have to stay where ever it is!

Yes I'm annoyed the heli got away from me and I will probably never know why it wouldn't respond in my attempts to rescue it but and it's a BIG BUT - No one was hurt and no harm done!

Take a look at these pictures, not far from the road and not much that will be of any use except the electrics.

The last picture shows a Green Aphid type bug that got the shock of its life when a heli fell out of the sky through a tree where it thought it was safe!

Repairable? Probably not but hey ho

    John

Bummer. One lucky escape tho, at least as far as injuries are concerned.

All in all you've not had much "luck" of late John.

          Oh Dear

          As you say, no-one hurt.

This happened to me recently. I had cyclic control, but no rudder.

Servo was OK and control rods in place, so can only assume it was a sort of brown-out on the rudder channel.

Glad you got it back and no-one got injured.........

It reminded me of an old rappy 50 I was flying once in my local farmers field. I decided to give it max piros whilst lifting off vertically until I'd reached a good height. Unfortunately, it decided it wanted to continue doing piros even when I didn't want it to. And climb higher and higher....
At that point I had no control over it whatsoever. Then the wind caught it and started sending it away from me.........towards my local town, about one and a half miles away.

You can only imaging the thoughts that went thru' my mind at that point. Carnage to say the least.
Realising I wasn't having much success, I just tried getting the sticks to bring it down. First time in my life I've ever tried to crash a heli.....

It just kept getting higher and higher (what happened to my failsafe !?!), and spinning, and drifting towards the town.

As it got higher, it slowed the spin down, and I felt I had some control, so just pushed the sticks forward. In the distance it started to go down, several fields away. It defeinately lost height, and went behind some trees.

I just chucked everything into the car, locked it up, and started running over the fields. Fields I'd never crossed before, trying to find gates or holes I could get thru'. I rounded a copse by a pond and saw an open field with something lying in the middle of the field, 600-700 yds away. This must be it. Sweating profusely at this point, I also noticed something else. A group of Ramblers, standing at the side of the field, (some 400yds away), with their leader wearing a flourescent coat. As I approached, I saw what was left of my heli, in the field, right on their public right of way footpath. They daren't enter the field. They must of thought it was an unexploded rocket that had just landed in the field, and this madman was running towards it. Run I did. Grabbed it up, and nobbed off pronto.

Took a bit of fixing, but then moved from 4.8v to lipos 'cos I'm sure that "voltage drop" caused a lockout.
No-one was hurt, that's the main thing...........

Unlucky John, glad you got you heli back and there was no harm to anyone. Looks like it's going to be an expensive repair though but a least you can replace the flimsy frames for the cheaper 2mm fusuno ones

Unlucky mate.. glad no one was hurt like u say.

It does remind me of a simular incident when I first started flying but it was down to me dumbthumbing it on a flip.. I was bricking it thinking it was going to fly over the tree in the field and hit a car on the road.. but fortunately.. the tree stopped it.

You really don't have much luck lately?! I have read a few of your posts and lady luck seems to have deserted you a few times. Hope the heli is flyable again, you found it and it didn't get squashed on the road so thats something.
RIP green fly, if you going to going death by trex 550 is the way to do it
