Were you to take it up in another helicopter and drop it from a great height, upon reaching terminal velocity on the way down it may well beat the 103 MPH?

What are the rules for this, because IMO you shouldn't be able to claim a record if you start by diving, thats not really just the helicopter doing the work, its gravity too, which seems a little bit like cheating.... drop a coaxial from enough height and it will likely go over 100mph.... into the ground, but would that count as a record, nope.

I think that any official record claim should have a rule where you have to accellerate in straight and level flight, that way you get a measure of the helicopters true capability.

Edit: Also a second run in the other direction with in a reasonable time, like they do with land speed record attempts to eliminate the effects of wind, doing it downwind (if there is wind) is going to also make the result suspect, since you're measuring ground speed not airspeed, you could end up with a high ground speed but a much lower airspeed, eg a 20mph tail wind could boost your ground speed by that much.

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

The first video was of FIA F3C record and was done in both directions and only a limited amount of gravity is able to be used hence to box with red string on it!

The tittle of the video is wrong they say that in the comments.

So they're taking an average of the upwind and downwind legs then, not just taking the average of all the downwind ones?

The reason I ask is I've seen a lot of videos of high speed flights and people claim on various forums that they've achieved some very high speeds, a lot higher than that vid, and neglected to mention until asked if those fly pasts where down wind, and the answer has always been yes.

Ive got my tdr up to 108 mph but that was i guess coming out if a huge loop. The record course forces you to fly a certain distance below a certain height. My flying field is not large enough to get a decent acceleration distance but i will keep trying. Lol

TDR, flybarless, Hyperion EX 12S and the biggest motor you can fit in it, maybe even over 710mm blades and you should have yourself a new record.
