you can't go wrong with that. Flybar helis have been good enough for several decades, and didn't stop working simply because FBL came along.

Most people end up owning more than one heli, so you can give it a chance later on. Technology is constantly evolving and prices are coming down - time is on your side.

I have had 5 flights with a 450 fitted with a BeastX and I think it is good enough to order another, I was contemplating a 3G and watched this and other forums to see what the real pilots thought of it. You know what the opinion is, whereas the beast is mainly good so I went for it. In total I have 8 helis and the others are definitely staying flybarred, I like flying different types and having a change.

In my own experience, the 500 is big enough not to 'need' the FBL unit. However, it would still benefit from a good fbl unit like the BeastX. Longer flight times, less head geometry, and more stable in pretty much every aspect of flight over a flybar heli, fact. That said, the flybar version will be just fine. Whatever you choose, I would steer clear of 3G based on my experiences with it (headache).

LOL - I have plenty of Heli's already. I don't mind being a (late-ish) early adopter, but it does sound like the jury is still out on this one.

I played with both the 3G and Flybared 600Ns on Phoenix today, and I can't say I really felt much difference.

But then, what do I know anyway!

My only heli is a 500. It's a great machine, and I learnt to fly CP on it, WITH a flybar. After 18 months, I am still a cr@p flyer, but I am now fitting a beastx to my machine, to see how I like it. I am prepared to go back to FB if necessary.

My advice is stick with a flybar until you get used to the machine, and then see if you want to try FBL.

F*ck me - that Skookum kit is expensive! I think the 500 3G Kit with that would be too much as it's hitting close to £1K which I think would put me in the dog house with the missus.

In any case, the consensus here is certainly mixed with pluses and minuses for either, so I think I will stick with FB and worry about FBL another time.

Fare enough, however, it will be a very worth while upgrade in the future.

For a very stable flybarred 500, I would recommend upgrading from the stock 340x3mm flybar to the original 600e 400x3mm flybar, not the 600 ESP flybar as it is 440x3mm.

With the addition of flybar weight's on a 400x3mm flybar, your 500 would be super stable.
