not quite sure as when he came back from a long stint abroad the battery was flat as a pancake and something had lost its memory so whoever looked at it disconnected the radio loom or something like it just to get it going but i will findout what he did do when he returns in a few weeks.

hi one of the ways of prolonging the life of a DPF filter is to use a low ash engine oil i work for mercedes-benz that's what we use. i also run this in my vauxhall diesel and get less DPF burns. its not that esey to get hold of but i have been told halfords do it?

I would thoroughly recommend one, I mean where else can you find a car that can dance like they can!! Lol, in seriousness though, I know it's completely the opposite end of the scale from the C5 but I've had 2 AX's, probably the best and most reliable cars I've ever had but then they were a lot simpler car with none of the electronics associated with the more modern cars

If the price is right and your happy then i'd go for it, faults can and do occur on pretty much any car, it's part of the "Joy" ownership, would personally avoid if it's a petrol but that's just my opinion. If you are still worried then look to take out some kind of warranty cover for the unknowns that can be hiding in any 2nd hand car.

Beerdeor, I quite like the 2.2 engines, but there's a lot more gubbings to go wrong. Defo get a desel though, as said.

On the subject of dpf's on certain ford diesels with them fitted ford says it needs to be replaced at 75000 miles. This would put me right off buying a second hand diesel with that sort of mileage because it ain't cheap to replace.

                    Sorry to go off topic

the ford engine you talk of is a peugoet lol I work for ford.

Citroen cars are good but like was said before avoid the 2.2 Every c5 i have worked on had this engine when working properly and properly looked after they are bullet proof, but most are not I have seen and worked on c5 models where the cam chains have snapped at 18k other regular problems are the cams which have align quality metals so snap cam pulleys and shear the woodruff key causing major damage. Other problems are the norm like cam and crank sensors.

Hdi pumps are another if your model has done more than 60k you are more than likely going to be o.k but keep your fingers crossed. Not cheap to repair and most people replace this to find that doesnt cure half your probelms.

RE-GEN I have seen 3 blow engines under forced re gen conditions done by means of diagnostic equipment
The engine draws in huge amounts of air causing the engine to almost redline causing extreme temperatures (and yes the cat can glow) for around 10 mins this clears out all soot and crap from the full system. The process is usualy carried out by the vehicle itself at high speed usually motorway speed which is why you would never notice but most have hardly been on the motor way which is bad for the engine

EOLYS oil is in the trade called pig pi$$ im not exactly sure yet how this is triggered i understand the c5 works as you open the fuel cap and add fuel this triggers a small shot of the eolys into the fuel system (please correct me if im wrong on this bit) when you get to around 80k is when the warning light on the dash comes up FUEL ADDITIVE LOW. I was quoted by a local citroen dealer ship £285 to replace this. I think we charge about £65 a ltr and some can take 3 ltr.

Sorry to have made such a long post but me personaly would just run away. buy a mondeo 2ltr TDCI 115hp will run for ever easy to fix parts are easier to get hold of and cheaper.I serviced one the other day with 285.000 and it still sounded like new and ran like new.

Hope somebody learnt something and hope it helps
