    Not hiding

The wife is out and the kids are playing up. Much rather be on here.
I have seen my fare share of people recently that are experiencing problems with their models that are due to a LiPo problem. Most and not every time it has been down to a cheap import from China. I was chatting to a guy at the fly in last Sunday about batteries and he was the one that mentioned the BMFA and batteries. Didnt get the impression he was making it up. Im not sure about the kite mark itself if Im honest but I was under the impression that all retail products sold in the UK had to have some kind of typically British standard. Dont get me wrong. If you can find a good cheaper battery that does the same job without bursting in to flames or the wires actually falling out of the cells then its a no brainer and I would be behind you in the que. I have had bad experiences with imported batteries and that was how the conversation last week came about.

      Kite mark

I think that the kite mark is just a general term used for standards.
I think you will find the CE mark is the european equivalent or something like that. Anyway who gives a dam...I wish I had said nothing now.

          Kite Mark...CE mark whatever

Just looked at my Overlander, Align and Flightpower batteries. They all have the CE mark. Not kite. I assume that is what the guy was refering to.
          Sorry for any confusion.

sadly the CE mark means nothing, you can buy rolls of those stickers and just stick them on whatever you want (as the chinese do routinely without ever going through any CE certification)

robgt,Im not hiding honest lol just a bit embarrased but there you go !
Interesting comments on British Kite marks on batteries, ive never seen one on any of my batteries ! I agree that lipos are expensive but the price has started to come down and hopefully will continue. But ive opted to try some cheaper ones for a change which ive had no problem with so far. Admitedly I only fly soft aerobatics . rolls, loops etc with my Avant so im not putting anything under pressure at present. However I ran the same batteries in my 450 pro which I used to chuck about like mad and still didnt have a problem ! Maybe Im not trying hard enough lol !

I'm not convinced about those WINFORCE batteries. I've had 3 of their 4s 3000mah 30/35C units and they have been okay, but not been great. I fly them in a small but hot EDF jet where the current draw is peaking at 50A. One of them puffs really badly (I think it took a knock in the post), another puffs a bit and the third one is pretty solid. One day, that puffy one is gonna "pop" my jet! They are the same size and weight as my TURNIGY 4s 2200mah 30/40C batts and perform identically from what I can tell (same flight time, similar flying characteristics, very similar voltage after flying and near-identical mah going back in when re-charging).

I know some people are now expressing doubts about the TURNIGY batteries from HobbyKing, but I'm sure that the WINFORCE ones are at least as hit-and-miss. Durability and endurance are the key weaknesses here.

Lets hope they hold up, if mine do start to puff they will go straight in the bin and Ill have to resort to buying expensive batteries again. Although saying that i did have a Flightpower 5000 EonX 6s explode in a 600E for not apparent reason.

CE marking is actually self-certification, there is no European body that does "CE certfication" as such. A CE mark means the manufacturer is declaring that the product meets 'ealth and safety standards, environmental standards, etc.

If you have a separate rx pack then I say crack on whilst the power to the motor feels good. Might be worth trying TURNIGY 30C packs and/or the LOONG MAX's from Giant Cod before going to the big-brand names.

But then again it's not my Avant...

Avoid buying from Giantcod though. Rob doesn't like to exchange or refund (and is rude about it) so you are taking a risk.

I have now run 32 flights and they have just started to puff slightly, no loss of power but I reckon a few more flights and there ready for the bin. Hey Ho £90 for 32 flights isnt bad I suppose. I may heve to go and buy some nice ones from MH !

I've had about 10 flights on the bqy on the second charge I checked the resistances of each cell (cellpro) and cell 6 has higher internal resistance :-( and it's the one where it's been impacted in transit :-( anyway contacted the seller hobbyrc-y and he's sent out a new one :-) great service. It's still performing ok tho.
