  • Good job...

...for the post flight inspection, otherwise I may have got to the field next time only to have to turn around and go back home.

Whenever I get home from flying the T-Rexes, I always take the blades out of the foam holder thingy, pull them straight, clean the squished bugs off the leading edges, turn the head by hand and have a look at the linkages etc.

In my second flight yesterday evening with the T-Rex 600, I was putting my sloppy flying down to just to dumb thumbs. Imagine my surprise therefore when I found one of the flybar paddles completely loose. I suspect it basically just faired itself into the airflow, so effectively I had only one flybar paddle working. (Good job it's on a threaded rod and couldn't just escape. If it did the imbalance would probably cause a "dynamic disassembly" of the rest of the heli, in flight...)

When I went to fix it, I realised that when I built the heli I must have ommitted to thread lock the grub screws, no evidence at all of thread lock on them. Oops. (And it's gone 76 flights like that, it's amazing they took that long to back off).

    Y'all be careful out there...

couldn't agree more. Did a quick once-over of mine following my first flight a couple of days ago, and found one of the tail bolts hanging out and fouling the tail pitch slider! Would have been a very short second flight if I hadn't corrected that. Thread locked every single bolt after that
