Can you put 8v through it? How much will it drop the voltage?

Yes you can - it drops the voltage by about 0.7 of a volt. I did this with the perfect reg glow as it was outputting 1.8v to the glow on 8v which I thought was a bit high but it does the same 1.8v with the align step down. Be daring mate run that MKS tail on 8v it'll be ok honestly . It's only a Velocity.

The Spektrum Dual reg would do the job though, as it has a max input of 10v and drops it down to 5.2
