Iphone HELITACH / Tachometers - Any good 50 size Heli

Hi,

As anybody tried this app on a 50 size heli and whats the best way to use it.

Alternativly is there any cheap tachos out there which will do a better job not many second hand ones going and dont want to spend a fortune

ive got that but i have not tried it yet im gonna see if i can do a test between the iphone app the bantium estation checkmaster ii and the align rce mt8 and see what the readings are

As far as I know it wont work with nitro helis because of exhaust note.

To get any respone out it you have to hover directly over the iphone, and then as stated the note from the nitro is not in the harmonics for the app.

Get an Optical tach like skytach for the best results

This also uses a fourier transform to identify the headspeed from an audio file. At the moment the tacho only supports electric helis, but going from a post by the author of the software on helifreak, the code is being worked on to also support nitro helis.
This is a great bit of software that is also free

I use HeliTach all the time on my electrics and it works great. It does support nitro, but with electrics you just input an estimated headspeed so that the app knows roughly where to look, with nitros you have to enter your motor and main gear tooth count as well.

Easy to use and proven to be very accurate. Well worth the money IMO.
