  • What 50 size FBL blades

What you using on your 50.

    Edge?

Ideally would prefer slightly bigger than 600mm as I can run up to 620mm so what other options are there or are there none other?

The compass 615mmblades are excellent for FBL and FB

I'm currently using standard Align 600's on both my Rexes (VBar & 3G) but am waiting for Fast Lad to re-stock the Radix FBL version. I also hear that Align are introducing their own (heavier) FBL blade as well.

I have heard great stuff about Edge but have avoided them so far as their overall weight is not that different from Align so nothing much to gain imho.

Its not the weight as much ,its in the distribution of it. It should be as neutral as possible

OK fair enough, I have not tried them myself but I have tried standard flybarred Radix and based on this experience the new ones (@150g ea) are gonna be great!

I have become a fan of Edge blades. Those are the ones that I'd buy.
Standard Radix blades work OK. Stickbangers aren't good for flybarless, they wobble too much on my 600 FBL.
I have only recently rediscovered shorter blades. Yes, size does matter and the heli looks bigger and floats better. But they bog the engine too much. Tictocs are IMO much easier with shorter blades.

If you judge blades only by weight, you'll miss most of the point.
And, speaking now of 690 Edge vs. Align stock 690, the Edges (or what's the plural of edge ) are MUCH heavier.

We noticed this today as we compared a set of normal radix and radix FBL on the Srimok E. The FBL blades were the preferred blade for Gareth but when we held both sets the normals had all the weight on the leading edge and the FBL blades were very neutral.

So could be worth trying the Compass blades before I start stocking up thenn..

I found that for the best FBL performance, a dynamically neutral blade is the best, (ditto for FAI use).

For 50 size helis. I recommend the Rotor Tech 6001 (600mm) blades. They are so well designed dynamically that if you loose a link in flight, that blade will just feather and you still have enough control to fly!!!

How do I know...happened to me this past weekend. I was able to land safely though the control was a lot softer.

In my research into the FBL blades i was advised to stay away from the FAI blade for FBL. Its not a bad blade but they are not the best setup for FBL.

Over the last year or so ive found Maniacs to be VERY good on FBL machines great "pop" fast cyclic and auto well......I do like the Edge blades (im using them on a Vbar T700) but they are quite slow on cyclic so you either fly them like that or end up increasing your agility - cyclic throws a little.

The Mainics are available in 623mm and all sizes are well priced.....

that is true - I took the 700 Edges out of the box, and the first thing I noticed is "wow, those are heavy".
I would have expected more bogging on heavy cyclic input, but maybe the engine is now tuned better. They auto very well.

I tried Radix FAI blades on the 700 flybarless, and didn't like them. Don't know, maybe they are too soft. Cyclics got really slow. On a normal flybar head they are nice and I think Jan Henseleit flew them during 3D masters with a headspeed that answered all my questions, whether doing light 3D with them is safe

As there are many different FAI blades available from many different manufacturers, my comment was strictly in reference to my experiences with the FAI blades from Rotor Tech.

It was explained to me before I tried them, that, due to their dynamic neutrality, the gyro systems in FBL electronics, have to work less to keep it all on course during any variations in rotor speed etc. As these RT blades do not have any built in faster or slower response characteristics, they do not require any additional input from the electronics to maintain neutrality around the feathering spindle (that is why they will feather when no control is given to them). The result is, any forces fed to it by the servos, will only be those to change pitch for flight maneuvers and no forces will be required to keep it from wanting to go more positive or negative as seen in blades with built in tendencies (e.g. 3D blades).

Also, due to their very efficient airfoil and tips, they can be set at higher pitch setting without taxing the power system as much as many others.

May try these as they the only over 600mm.

I have had a couple of pm's too telling me to try the standard compass ones before buying others as they appear to work well.
