  • Interesting Heli Vibration = Blade problem

Right guys got my governor set up on my heli today after make a 30 into a 50 raptor.

The problem is a got some 600mm blades (wood) just so i can get used to the heli and got some vibration nothing major but i got it.

I took them off and put my 600mm fibreglass blades on and heli was smooth as hell (perfect) only prob there are for another heli so cannot perm use them.

So i came home and weighed the woodies

One weighed 134.0grams and the other weighed 134.4g so 0.4g out I have now matched each blade but cannot try again tommorow as i know it is def the blades that are the prob what else could be wrong with the blades they are brand new woodies or would 0.4g make the heli vibrate a little.

    Thanks,

    Jonny

In my experience woodies almost always need to be balanced by hand first whereas carbons tend to be much closer and sometimes perfectly balanced right out of the pack.

Even a small amount of weight can cause a noticeable amount of vibration.

Hi, I am no expert but I am running woodien blades myself at mo (will upgrade after next crash) I checked my blades before I put them on, and weight wise werent too far out. But the centre of gravity was way different on along each blade. I believe this can make a difference as the mass of the blade has a different effect on the rotor head because of the mass has more leverage on one side than the other. I used the finless Bob technique of Blade balancing i.e, balance the the blades so the C of G is the same on each blade then then add wieght at the C of G point to get the same wieght, and my blades seem fine. I am sure there are people on here with more expertise and experience who can help but thought I would pass my experience of woodies.
