  • Totally cheesed off and totally deflated

Finaly had a day off so thought i would pop down to my local club to introduce my self and ask a few things if there was anyone there flying heli's and was shot down in flames and told dont bother with them they very hard and if ur not under 30 forget it and then when i said im looking at electric only i was almost shunned i think in a jokingly way, then told this is what you want an ic trainer as heli's need to much setting up all the time just to keep it in the air.
I now feel really angry at them even tho they was very welcoming and now dont no in which way to go as heli's just call out to me and can now hover the blade sr in phoenix really well only tail in so far.

No there are no heli clubs local to me that i can find but as bigbas has said somone has pm'd about a group that sound like they have done the same so will give him a ring later and see what happens there.

I have plenty of time as i work 4 on 4 off and while in work if im nights i can sometimes get away with taking the laptop in and practice lol.

As for the under 30 part i think they ment if your not some little kid with fast reflexs forget it. And by god does it ever grab you by the balls its amazing how you can spend hours on the sim and have a big smile just cos you got it to hover lol

Cheers all for making me feel better i just dont get it why they are like that but moan when they dont get any new members.

Unfortunately the stereo typical plank flyer that can't fly a heli, has no interest other than there own discipline and so will shun and belittle anything outside his own skills (assuming he can actually fly a plank).

A real shame as there attitude does absolutely nothing for the hobby in either discipline. I'd suggest finding another club or start your own if you can find enough flyers.

                What was the club ?

I found a local club once that said on there site was pro heli - but once you got there it was so obviously not and the reason was the chairman - not enough had the courage to oust him and so the club continued to have a closed mind to rotary flight.
                Cheers

What the.... since when, set them up, leave them as is and fly, no different to a plane really, the only time you need to do it again is when you crash them, again no different to a plane, I would have explained that to them then told them they are an ignorant bunch and clearly know very little about helis so have no place offering such advice.

I have a similar problem, there are two decent clubs North & South from me but each is a thirty minute drive, thus three years down the line I still fly alone or with a few like minded locals in a safe spot and we love it!

There are loads & loads of decent friendly heli fliers around the UK but many are far flung from places like South Wales, chat through the forums and shout out to any one local to you, you'll be surprised how many other Heli Pilots there are lurking around

Oh by the way it sounds like your beyond saving already if you've got the bug it's all upward from here well except your wallet that will take a battering

Myself, Downdraft and Jam50 have set up a "heli day" in a couple of weeks when we will take our models down and offer non heli flyers the opportunity to have a hover with ours on a buddy lead. It was seen by the committee as a positive step to "breaking down" barriers, but I have to say to date we only have a couple of people who intend coming.

On a positive note, we can have the field to ourselves for the day

I used to fly planes but got bored of them easily, I can't see me getting bored of the heli's though, althoughI am new to them. Plane flyers tend to not be pro heli's as they hover around the landing strip and tend to hog the available space.

Don't listen to them about buying a fixed wing either. I'd rather repair a heli than a plane. The heli parts are simple to bolt together and after a smash it is possible to get up and going the same or next day again. I find that after an incident with a plane there is a lot of remanufacturing needed.

Aeroplanes are so much easier to fly and require relatively little skill to fly basic maneuvers. A heli requires a high level of skill just to hover so it depends what you are after really. The extreme satisfaction of being able to perform the most basic manuveurs of a heli or the 'nice' feeling of flying a plane.

Both disciplines are enjoyable but in different ways.

Again no matter where u live there is always somebody who enjoys the same as you i live only 25 miles from lands end and still have five people who enjoy the same thrill of flying helis as i do and each have the same helis if somebody breaks one then we all get together and repair it we all buy spares but we all share that is what we started and have continued to date so who needs a sh--ty plank club with all its rules and reg we all have insurance and fly with respect for each other what more can i say barry

this can keep you motivated for a while:
You do want to learn backwards cuban 8s. Note this is not for the faint-of-heart.

So when you meet plankers with an attitude, fly some nice cubans. Look I can fly like a little toy airplane. Then backwards
