  • Running in Fuel question.

    Hi Guys,

I have been running all my heli's on MT contest 10 (10%) but have now changed to 16% coptermix. With my new OS55 should I run it in on the 10% then retune for the 16% or just run it in on the 16%.

I have had split opinions on this with some people saying it best to do it one way and others saying I should run it in on the fuel I'm going to use.

    What do you guys think?

If you run it in on the fuel you are going to use it will make it a bit easier. this is because as the engine "runs in" you will have to adjust the needles until the process has completed.

If you then switch fuels you will have to re adjust.

I would run it in on the Coptermix if thats the fuel you will be using

I have always run my engines in on the fuel that I am planning on using! Like Asid said it means you don't need to start adjusting needles again after you have finished the running in process!

        Hi,

The best method is to run the engine on the fuel it is going to be run.

The method of having a 'Run-In' fuel was used for old style ABC type engines that were mainly fixed wing engines and early heli engines as these types of engines had to be 'Run-In' as the mated surface between piston and sleeve would be tight so a 'Run-In' fuel with a higher oil content for this break in method was advised. With the newer Ring type engines and modern manufactuering, modern day engines don't require that much of a break-in.

Also, the OS settings for the needle's on the 55 are on the rich side so it will be slobbering rich and stone cold initially, i took a quarter turn off both my needles to make them 1 3/4 turns out and this helped, but i am running 30% so this will be different if you are using 16%. My needles are about 1.5 turns out or less and it is beginging to get on the power now!!
I have mine in a Synergy N5 with a Hatori SAB55 Pipe and it is an absolute powerhouse!!

        Hope this helps!
        Thanks!
