  • Gyro or Governor?

I've noticed recently a nasty quirk on both my N9 and N5. Both are fitted with Spartan DS760's, one with a BLS251 the other a BLS253, and both have revlock 10's fitted. Basically, when I unload the engine, i.e. if I pause mid backflip for instance, the tail will drift (nose left i think), by quiet a noticable amount. On the N9, the governor seems to be working as it should, no overspeeding, no excessive backing off, and still it does it. The N5 however, the governor does seem to back off a little too much at times; I think I need to up the gain a little on the revlock.

The feel is the exact same on both machines, and is something that is beggining to really annoy me. It's also visible at the top of a massive loop, i.e. where the engine unloads a little as you back off the pitch and go negative. I've a feeling that it's the Spartan's doing this, and am very tempted to try a CSM 720, but before I spend any cash, want to rule anything else out. A mate also commented to me yesterday that he see's the same thing on his Spartan equipped machines.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Jamie

Jamie .. you know n e one that can lend you a 720 ?? that way you can rule it out without having to fork out for another gyro ..

I had a revlock 10 in my 600 until a week or so ago, while I am nowhere near a 3D pilot I didn't notice this behaviour in loops or flips. I use the 750 Align gyro and the DS650 servo.

One thing I did notice with the Revlock was an odd 'hunting' until I added a quicker throttle servo (9254), could it be a slow or slow'ish throttle servo not reacting to the governors commands fast enough?

No, 9254 on the N9 and 9650 on the N5

Funny you should mention this Jamie. I have the exact same issue with one if my 700's running a Spartan and BLS251. My other 700 is rock solid using a Spartan but a DS650 instead. It's noticeably better and feels less 'spongy'. I am also running a hell of a lot more gain on the 251 than the 650. I think we may need to use the big round futaba horns to get more mechanical gain rather than the star horns. Tbh though if the bigger servo horn/disc doesn't work I'm just going to get another DS650.

          Cheers
