  • Heli storage

I have recently bought a 700 heli that I need to hang from the wall as it is too big to store on a shelf like my 500 and 250.

Does anyone have any good tips of what to use in order to hang my 700 on the wall?

    Thanks

Not sure I like the idea of a grands worth of heli hanging from only one point and also putting leverage the wrong way for the skids- just my opinion. If I was going to do a wall mount I would design something that would hold the frame - you have got me thinking now lol- watch this space.

Most modern walls are plaster board clad and if you look at the hangers, they will be exerting an outward pulling force on any hanger and not just a downward force.

That DIY wall rack makes me very nervous

one problem with storing nitro helis upright is that the dirty oil from the crankcase oozes into the rear bearing. After a month or two you'll clearly see a strip of corrosion, where the bearing faced down.
Whether it actually affects bearing life, I don't know (I'd wear them out anyway).

no harm meant here Alex but thats a bit OTT, I have been hanging my helis of a blade screwed to the wall with standoffs for years with no ill effects to the wall or my helis. The amount of stress put on the skids would not be very much different to it sitting on the feet.

                  just my opinion

I used a spare clothes prop and screwed it to the garage wall, with some wooden standoffs. It will take alot of helis to pull that mother off.....

I doubt if undue stress on the skids is a problem, but I did find that it was putting alot of torsional pressure on the tail fin, so much so that it loosened the boom on a trex 600. Maybe it wasn't tight enough to start with at the body end of the heli, but there was up and down movement, which I soon got rid off by tightenening the 4 bolts up again. I have not noticed the problem re-occurring, but it certainly does put pressure on the tail fin, so hang it carefully, as I do...

Personally I'm using an old pine bookshelf.

My 600 and 700 live on the top, my 500 on the next shelf down, my 450 and 250 on the shelf below that and the bottom has a few boxes, my chargers etc.

Works a treat, even if my wife hates it.

hehe- no offense taken Like I said, just my opinion- I reckon it would be fine into a solid wall or the battens of a stud wall, but I have yet to find a plasterboard fixing that I trust.

I use something very similar bought from Ikea. Think it cost me a fiver and it used 4 x 50mm fixings to hold it to a concrete wall so its unlikely to let go any time soon

Oh and it holds my 600 and rappy 30 no probs
