  • Forum Management

Please don't take this as any kind of offense or a dig at any person or people..... it's just an observation of the forum over the last couple of months.

There seems to be a lack of forum management around these parts these days.

I know Stuart has his hands full with a new baby and all that, and good luck to him and his family, but there is also a noticeable lack of moderator activity and posting as well. I would have thought these positions might have come up to the front while Stuart has his hands full elsewhere.

There are bits of the forum that don't work very well (like the picture resizing and some odd random boxes down the bottom right hand corner of the home page), which in the past Stuart would have fixed pretty quickly in times gone by.

Is there not someone else who could help out with some of the technical issues while Stuart is changing messy nappies and feeding through the night, and if the existing moderators aren't feeling up to the job anymore or have other more pressing engagements, then fine. I don't think anybody will hold it against them if they decided to stand down to make way for some new blood with more time available on their hands.

And before anyone suggests it, no, I don't have the reasoning or negitiating skills to be a moderator - like a Bull in a China shop me! I do have some web-design skills but only really in graphics and html and know very little of php database scripts and all that.

For what it's worth, and only of course if they really want to do it, I'd nominate Mart61 and busterboy for mods, and robgt for site management and mod, leaving Stuart to (a) get on with the more important stuff in life (for the time being at least) and (b) to continue working on the RCHA stuff as he sees fit.

Mods are fine as the site does not need modding any more than they do, it's what makes this forum what it is. They step in as and when required.

We never see posts about medications or porn or dating etc so that's all good.

One thing I do agree is there are a couple of little niggles like you say, picture sizing etc bi that can be done by the op before hand.

Other than that keep it as it is

    Just my thoughts

There are a few design and php issues that need fixing but the rest is OK 99% of the time

Certainly no need for Mark Ryder style modding

        I agree entirely.

It's just that the 'Management Team' (i.e. Stuart and the mods) were all a lot more prominent in their use of the forum pages and their input a few months ago, and nowadays they are conspicuous by their absence. We all know they may or may not have 'other' things to concentrate on which is fine. It's just that I think having a management 'presence' about the site is a good thing, in my opinion.

"Stet" would be my view. Self-regulation is the best regulation and if we can't do it then that would be a great indictment.

Yes since April our family life has had an explosion of madness with our latest arrival, but now things are starting to settle down and I've been online more in the last week or so.

I tend to use invisable mode, as newbies may feel awkward on there first post as they get a PM from me initially telling hello and to pls intro themselves, then I vet that post as part of trying to stop the scamming - this may change as we've got I feel a good handle on them and its been a long time since a mobile phone co's try to pawn off a million and one phones....

Re-sizing fixed and not too sure about the random boxes - fire an e-mail to me with a page dump and I'll have a looksie...

Lee's had his own issues and is now getting back to online more and more - so I'm sure together with Tony we will be back on track soon enough.

I'd always say though that the report a post button works well and I've done some PM's over the last few weeks regarding mis-postings etc.
            Cheers
            Stuart

Personally I think Steve should volunteer for some early morning Nappy changing duty

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?
