finally bought a new boat and need some help from the math geeks!

    details are thus-

    Avon 580 adventure RIB
    Mariner 100hp 4 stroke
    Indespension trailer
    AUW is 1000kg.

i need to find out how much force it will take to pull it up a driveway with a 25 degree incline so i can arrange an anchor point and suitable winch for doing this.....only prob is i have NO idea how to work this out.

    anyone?

    cheers

Hi, not much idea how to work it out either but I have a winch which clips on to a floor mounted plate to pull a caravan up my drive. That is quite a steep slope.
I only used it once but then we decided to sell the caravan so the winch is sat in my shed. I can have a look at the destructions and see if that can explain how to work it out.
I will get back to you if I find out anything useful.
    Bill.

It is 423Kg if there were no friction etc, but there is friction, so it will be a bit more than that (I think 500Kg of pull would be enough).

thanks for this guys, appreciate it. surprised it is so little going up a gradient....good stuff. i'll be massively over speccing the winch anyway with a 1500-2000kg unit.

it's more so i can make an anchor point on the drive.

bill-is this an electric system you have/would you sell it and what is the plate exactly? pics would be awesome if you have any for ideas on my app.

edit-25 degree incline was a guess till i get home and put my iphone on the hill so i'll update accordingly later folks if massively different.

        cheers

I'm not sure how you get 360N from that.

          It should be Sin(25deg) X 1000kg = appx 423kg excluding friction

In terms of Newtons it would be about 4150, but not many people think of those units in the real world.

423kg is just the holding force, of course. Overcoming friction to actually pull it up the slope probably requires quite a bit more.

                lol......

i'll be getting 1500kg plus winch anyway so just how to mount it to the floor now is my issue.

                cheers

                    Anchor ideas -

                    Winch on trailer.
Anchor plate bolted/set into concrete OR anchor pole (removeable)

Winch in garage offset to wall, run cable through pulley anchored to centre line of drive.

No i relised my math was wrong after i rechecked it so i deleted the post to save confusion as you had already answered it.

little update folks, my driveway is exactly 13 degrees on the old idog, how much diff that will make i dunno. the good news is if anything it's less stress i guess

some pics of the rig if it helps out.

sorry i don't know how to find out about the trailer friction??

                        cheers

That won't need much!!! Could you not reverse it up the driveway? Then use wheel chocks/chain and post to hold it?
How about a pulpy system and good old fashion tug o war style effort?! I once used an old block n tackle to do similar With!

the top of my driveway where it will stay is flat so no issues there. it's more the road i live in i don't have a lot of room to get it in while on the car.

also i have NO intention of putting my car down a slip so want electric winch for that purpose aswell.

                            cheers
