  • Clutch lining?

Since changing the clutch in my 600 (o.s 50 hyper) it screems before grabbing the clutch lining!
Didnt really bother me to much but i crashed at the weekend and now the engine is out,so was just wanting your thoughts on if it would benifit on a new clutch lining whilst its out?
If so whats the best way to get the old one out and the best way to get the new one in?

    Thanks in advance!

Two people at my club recently purchased T-Rex 600LEs. On both of these models the engine would scream before the clutch would engage. Both changed the clutch shoes for the Quick UK shoe and now both models are spooling up sooner without the engine screaming.

For some reason the clutch shoes in these kits are not springy like they should be.

To get the old liner out use heat to soften the epoxy and then just scrape it out with a knife carefully to not dig too much into the bell itself.

Just to put my situation forward, I have the original shoe and fitted a new liner I havent had problems like screeching (yet).

I used a fine craft knife or any sort of sharp pointed object will do to remove the old liner.

I tested the new liner before I glued it up and it fitted perfect.

This part is normally the messy bit.

Basically the way I fitted the new one, it was very tight to fit, was to put both ends in first so they meet and slowly fed the rest around the clutch bell just as I got around to the last part, its near impossible to fit in without making a mess, so I pulled the last portion of the liner towards the center of the bell and carefully popped it in and walla.

I then, after some advice from this forum, stuck a few wraps of electrical tape around the clutch shoe and popped the shoe back into the bell but making sure it fits tight that way itl keep pressure onto the liner while it drys.

I know what ive said is confusing but its hard to describe without making a video :/.

Im sure i Heard of people using 700 or raptor liners on a 600 ?
Scince the LE came out with stronger clutch theres been a lot of threads similar to yours carl, screaming before the clutch grabs and maybe a thicker liner is the solution.
So what was the damage then Carl,It was a good 'un wasn't it!

I'd agree with EvoAndy and put the QuickUK drum in: thicker and better made arms. Also I use a cut-down 700 liner.

From what I learned 50 size liners are 0.8mm thick and 90 size liners are 1mm think. Use which ever gives you the clutch to liner clearance that you want. In my experience you want to be looking for about 12thou total (6thou each side). A good tip for fitting is to use a piece of plastic plumbing pipe split down the side then spring into the clutch bell to hold the liner until the glue sets.

yeah my early tuning experiences were not good

whilst getting the crank out for Carl today, I've still got another 3 OS50 crankcases and 3 OS 91 crankcases, basically seem to have a whole drawer of bits

what with the prices of OS spares, I never throw anything away!
