  • Realistic price for second hand helicopters.

What kind of percentage do you
work on for helicopters you sell.
I've not flown my helis for weeks
    so am seriously considering selling
some of them on but am unsure what
    to ask for them.

Look in the For Sale section for what others have sold similar for Martin. That will give you a guide on what buyers are prepared to pay.

Unless you have something quite outlandish, then you'll find something of similar spec to what you want to sell.

As a rough guide I sold my Raptor se 50 titan for £450 notes new but second hand complete and ready to fly.

It cost me £750.00 all in to build but had two raptors so one had to go.

So based on that I would look at getting around 2/3 of the price new

Well I cant fly them on the postage stamp
that weve aquired Paul so have had to join
a plank club, I'm now enjoying plank flying
more than I've ever done before so have decided
to keep one heli & sell the rest.
Which one to keep is going to be the tricky bit.

            Sad to hear that Martin.
I would say depending on age and spec, between 50-75% of new value, if it is virtually new near the 75% mark

it all depends whats in favour or out of favour at a certian time....

basically 50% of orginal cost is where to start.

I fly all models be a plane, glider or helicopter and currently got a feel for the helis again for now so the rest goto the back burner for me. then when the helis fall out of favour switch to something else....

Trust me keep 2 helicopters otherwise you'll be why did I sell that!!! I loved it!

                So maybe keep the 450 & the 600 &
sell my 500 esp and the 700 pro then?
I cant realy justify keeping any of them
since work stopped nights i havent had
the money or the balls to fly them.
I have decided I need another job but it
wont be so well paid but will mean I can
get rid of one of my cars.
Hopefully when finances are sorted I may be
able to fly a heli again but my attitude is all
                or nothing.
I cant do this hobby a little I need
                to live and breath it.

Realistic price for second hand helicopters.

To be honest I would keep the 500 and 700 lol. The 500 is a great heli and is a lot more stable than a 450 plus decent parts prices. The 700 is a great way to have a big heli without crazy expense. If the 600 is nitro you could always keep that instead of the 700 because of the cheaper running costs of fuel and parts. I currently use a 500esp and raptor 50 which I feel gives a good line up of power, running costs and flyability/ stability but hey that's just my opinion and yeah if I could afford to run/crash a 90 I'd have one ohh I also have a mini Titan se which has crazy power but I've flown it about twice since I've got my 500

All though selling a Heli gives a quick fix of funds my advice is don't sell. I've done it so many times, telling myself I've got to many heli's I need to thin the fleet down/to expensive to keep all airborne. Then six months later end up paying double what I sold for to replace. leave them on the shelf for a couple of months, if you still feel the same or circumstances dictate then sell them. This hobby is hard one to shake off it never truely leaves our blood.

In answer to your question as others have alread said, you'll be looking for 50% complete Heli, sometimes it's worth braking down and sell airframe, electrics, blades and engine separately where if your lucky you could get 75% of what you paid.
                      Thanks,
                      Christian

This is true. 'Just to add, because there tends to be a similar train of thought that if a heli is not being flown it cannot be justified sitting around.

I bought a Hirobo evo 50 two years ago and it sat on the shelf all that time as I was flying other helis and just ignored it really. Then over the winter I got it setup and started flying it and discovered it flies so nicely and is really a great heli.

I guess due to the cost there's a different mindset about helis compared to how a lot of the plank fliers view their planes. My work colleague has something like 30 + planes and they happily sit in a small workshop when not being flown. (having said that, there is a limit though because helis require a lot more attention than planks and, for me anyway, there is a limit to how thinly I can divide my time between them)

-just to add, in response to Tims comments, if the issue is the flying field I'm sure there is a solution to that. Some of us travel fair distances to get to the club and fly and it's something you just get used to (it takes me an hour by train to get to the nearest club of the three I belong to), but there may well be a solution that doesn't require a long drive.

Take this as a comment from a friend and read it with my best intension's intended.

I have seen you posting on these forums for a few years now wanting "In and Out" of the hobby at various times.

You have always done your fishing and enjoyed that too but you have ALWAYS returned to this hobby costing you an arm and a leg everytime you return.

Either take the bull by the horns and hammer this hobby (which I think is your best bet) or sell the lot and start knitting..

As you already know you love this hobby so either make the effort and find a nearby field (ask a farmer) and get to the heights you want out of it or sell the lot.

Please read this with no malice intended but take it as advise from a long term friend.
