  • Air in Header tank?

    Just a quicky..

I'm getting air in my header tank when I chucking the Heli around.. Is this normal?? At the end of a full tank of fuel (well 5-10% left in main), I've probably got about 5% of air in the header tank?

    You mean like this Eddie.

Ditch the header tank and use a magnet. Sorted my problem out..

youve probably got a split clunk line either in the main tank or the header tank mate

I changed mine several times Tony, didnt change nothing regarding getting air in the header tank.

Seems to be a common problem with the 700 but not the 600.

        Bizarre.

          So its not normal!!

Oooh.. not that bad Tim! Only about 5% at the end of a tank but you look like 50% at 50%!!

I'm not really a fan of Magnets.. I did ask before deciding on the Header. I dont like the magnets corroding so quickly and at £12 for 3 replacements and hearing some guys having to replace after a month seems a chore!

Cool, I'll order some new line and give that a shot! Thanks Tony

I would have said that it is normal. If you are chucking the heli around there are going to be times when the main clunk is not immersed in fuel, sucks air up and the header tank catches it. I thought this was the real point of a header, rather than a reserve. If you don't like magnets you could try the os bubbless clunk, I have one (as well as magnets) and I get very little air thru to the header, although always some. If you leave enough fuel in the tank to keep a magnet immersed between flying sessions the sponges last for ages.

Trouble is Mike my heli was emptying the header and running out of fuel when the main tank was still half full.

Now, i'm not saying its your problem, or have any idea how it works. But i got air in my header tank when i first built my 600 and i was testing it out on the ground. My problem turned out to be the clunk line very slightly too long, which somehow mean't it couldn't get the fuel it needed, and put bubbles into the header tank.

It looked exactly like the pictured heli, with the clunk exactly as pictured. I took 2mm off the clunk tube, no problems ever since.

                  Might be something to check.

                  Thanks

                  Matt

Thanks for suggestion Mike, My clunk sits the same aswell.

Okie Dokie.. may be worrying about nothing much, as its not as bad as Tims but I'll get a bubbleless Clunk, new line and trim a bit off both clunk lines!

                      Happy days!
