thats the point i am putting across, instead of moaning about how rubbish it was, try to help make it better
we dont have many model shows in this area of the country and it would be a shame if this one had no helis
surely stu and ade know other heli pilots to put forward
i expect (and hope) you will put harry forward for a slot next year judging by how he is progressing
it is annoying when slots are changed, i was due to fly an aerobatic slot for PH school last year, but it was changed as they wanted to see pauls jet fly so i didnt even get 3 minutes
i know the heli's were slotted together, well ade and stu were after adam and jamie, so not quite the 3 minutes for 4 helis that has been made out!!! and i'm sure pete will do his best next year,
and i know about adams engine (it was a shame and i know that he returned sunday and can only be commended for doing so), but if he had a solo slot then it would not of been great from a public spectator point of view so i can understand why the organisers put helis together

Firstly we were contacted about doing this display about six months ago after doing the show last year. We were sent a form about a couple of pages long to fill out what were flying who we fly for etc. Then they called again a month later to arrange a slot for Stu and I to fly in. We try to get to as many local diplays as we can at our cost to help promote the hobby and our sponsors, woodspring would be quite a high priority as it does pull large crowds. Stu and myself have had a really busy year which has been great but tiring as we have been juggling all the traveling we have done with full time work. This month we have a major competition and could only spare the time to do one slot. So we made the journey from Yeovil to Bristol so we could do the tandem flight for the spectators. Why was there the same sound system as last year when they knew it was rubbish? Straight away sly helicopter digs from the plankers.. zzzz got no time for there awful banter. Jamie and Adz went up first as soon as they took off the flightline guy told us to go out there and start flying and push Jamie off as we were cutting the slot to 3 mins from 8 and they were running on time. Did our flight could not hear the music. No mention of our sponsors what we were flying on the mic What was the point in filling out the forms? Were spending our money to travel there risk our machines worth thousands for what? On the flip side the following day Stu went to Dorset Heli club and had a blast. So personally I would rather go to smaller Heli events and enjoy our flying. We never had this problem at Weston Park we had allocated slots and they gave us the full time without the Q and A form

Adie, well having read the full story I can fully understand your feelings towards this event, unfortunately most of the show had been organised for this year before I got involved, it will be different next year I can assure you.
I have already suggested that the mic commentary should be done by a heli pilot next year, yes that will be me, the PA system does not sound that good from the flight line but people I have spoken to in the crowd could hear the music and commented how they really enjoyed the show you put on, mainly because is was so different from just planks doing circuits.
So please don't give up yet on next year as it is my intention to get more heli slots, 3D, scale & vintage.
The woodspring show has always been plank orientated. they are however coming around and want to see something different, so it is upto us all to push forward & educate.
Anyway enough of that, are you guys still coming up for the South West Heli Fly-In, same woodspring venue but an all heli event Sept 5th.

                      Pete

I just feel organisers of all Uk events should be looking at videos of other events happening around the world to pick ideas from them. From what I've seen at our big Uk shows we are falling behind. Through even more attendance the shows will Pull more international pilots making the shows more interesting getting a better level and variety of pilots and models. Really the bath or other model helicopter members should have had the chance to fly at the event aswell I feel the crowd would have appreciated it as they like to see variety, this also gives the pilots the chance to fly in front of large crowds and build there confidence if there looking to compete in competitons in the future. It's not gonna happen but the event should really be 50% helicopters in my eyes as from working in a model shop myself this is the current growth area in our hobby and is the most likely to pull new younger members into the future of the hobby. I feel these events should be more family orientated to pull a wider range of audience little things like a bouncy castle or small events to entertain younger children. Also get the crowd more involved give them the chance to do buddy up on the flightline give them a taste of what they could get into.

We won't be going next year but if I hear it improves and more helicopters are given more slots. I would go the year after if we were invited again.

i agree organisers could look at other shows, and local heli clubs should ask for slots, but may be put off as many club pilots dont hold a B cert and might see that they dont have much to offer against pilots such as yourselfs
50% of a show on helis would indeed be a dream but as you say unlikely to happen
and agree about the growth as a lot of our new customers at the school are heli pilots
but it needs people are the forefront on the scene to promote the hobby, you guys, like us attend the other shows and as such are in a better place to tell the organisers what happens at them
its a shame that you wont go next year because as Hellraiser says he wants things to change, it is very difficult to make a slot appear different to others, (every time you see a 50cc+ plane take to the runway you know that sooner or later it will be prop hanging) but you guys have and as hellraiser said the music was fine in the crowd

the buddy link thing we have looked at before, and would be an insurance nightmare
