The kit price is low, but by the time you appoint it with genuine-article non-discounted servos, gyro, rx, ESC, Motor, Blades etc then finish it with a nicer canopy and buy the genuine Align parts needed to make it work properly (see the RCGroups threads) I'm pretty sure that the total price will be within a few quid of the genuine article. If you appoint it with bargain avionics from the far east (which can sometimes work very well) then you have a cheaper option, but resale value will be very low and the satisfaction levels might be lower too.

My original negativity aside, if you buy one of the higher spec versions for $65 (or go crazy with one for $95) you could get an HK motor for $20-$25, a good ESC for $45, gyro for $14 (GY401 clone!), cheapy MG servos etc etc. So you could have a reasonable 500 clone ready to fly for very little money, perhaps running on a pair of 3s 2200 batts you may have lying around.

Trouble is, postage is gonna sting a bit and I bet customs would take a view on import duty irrespective of the actual price you pay. I suppose you could split the postage over several different transactions to keep the value of each package down a bit (but increasing the total postage cost bit).

The most I've ever tried to buy in one shot is a pair of 4s batteries. Has anyone tried buying big, bulky and valuable stuff from HK?
