  • Any ideas what ESC I should use?

I've got myself a Scorpion 2221-6 motor for my 450 Sport. It's the mad 4400Kv motor.

Is the Scorpion Commanded 55v any good?

If not any other one's that can do the job?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Ha, that's what I went for. £75 but am hoping it will be the dogs danglies.

Got an 11t pinion too for the Scorp motor.

Hopefully this should make it totally mental, and it's already crazy on the stock Align stuff.

Ive got a Castle Creations Phoenix 35 on my 450 and love it. The soft start is really nice and the governor works a treat.

I would definately go CC again if I need another ESC. THe only bugbear I have is that they charge £20 for the castle link cable. They must be making a killing on those things although saying that its no different than the £20 they charge for the cellpro data cable :S

Bit worried now, am I able to setup governor mode if I don't have the Castle link? I wasn't aware you had to pay £20 for the bloody thing!

Yes you can use the end points and manually configure it with the Tx, not too sure why you would want to though.

            Really is top banana.

So I will need the cable to use the set RPM feature?

That sucks if so and at £75 it should come with a bloody cable.

I worked out my headspeed to be around 3500 with a fully charged lipo without gov mode using the 11t pinion.

Im sure you can set it all up without the cable. I have the lead (not too sure where it is atm though) but cover the postage costs and you can borrow it, you wont need it after that anyway.

You definately need the cable to set up rpm governor mode. You have to specify 3 head speeds that relate to throttle position.

                    0-50% - headspeed 1
                    50-99% - headspeed 2
                    100% - headspeed 3

It would be a bit difficult to enter these values in using the TX lol

Also you might have to fettle the gain a bit to prevent the motor pulsing - I had to drop mine a bit to get it running all smooth.

Once this is all done and you have it all functioning correctly there should be no need to reconfigure the device again.

I'm running a cc phoenix and can't fault it, I don't bother with scorpion escs anymore. Very unreliable!

If you run gov mode it won't let you run as higher headspeed as you think you should be able to. It limited my Atom right down so I just used a throttle curve and it's fine.

Even with the above it's miles better than the Scorpion ESC's even if it's just the slow start you want

This is done intentionally to ensure that the heli can maintain the head speed when under load. If you cant get the head speed you require then I think it is recomended to move up a pinion size.

Oh also something I forgot to mention earlier - you also need the castle link to enable the auto-rotation mode.

The castle link really is worth having, but I agree it should come with the esc, especially when you are paying £75 for it
