  • The big fuel debate!

    Hi guys
Now I know most of you will only buy Magnum to go in your helicopters, I dont question that at all. I know it is good fuel & probably fair value to boot. I've just bought myself a raptor 50 se which has an OS 50 hyper in it. Most know Im an absolute planker at heart, & I am trying to get back into the heli side of things after a very traumatic first atempt that left me on prozac The thing is I dont like to keep lots of different types of fuel. I try to find one that is suitable for all my engines. At the moment I am using southern modelcraft PS fuel with 20% nitro in it, It's great for my YS 4 strokes & reasonably priced it is a fully synthetic fuel with an oil content of 22% can I get away with using this fuel in my heli ?

That depends, is the oil percentage, a mass percent or a volume percent.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

No idea mate what difference does it make either way surely oil & methanol have roughly equal weight.

In all likelihood, it will work fine.
I don't know anything about that fuel personally...

I use Wildcat 30% Curtis Youngblood personally, but I also sell quite a bit of Wildcat 20% Helimix which is excellent fuel, and only £12.50 per US gallon.

        Cheers,

          Sounds good Rob
Inevitable question then can it be done the other way around will magnum or wildcat 20% or 30% be ok in my 4 strokes which are a mix of saitos & ys's?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so.
Reason for that is I know Wildcat produce fuels specific to the model type - http://anbro.com/bb-fuel-wildcat-fuel-range.htm

I guess to get optimum efficiency from a specific engine type, the fuel may require a slightly modified formula?
            Cheers,

Apparently there is a big enough difference in the density to change the percentage if measuring by volume vs weight.

I would go along with what everyone else is saying though, its probably ok.

the trouble is that the UK methonol just doesnt have the same punch and consistancy of the US stuff.

personally i would go with coolpower or wildcat in the absense of magnum.

I have found that my planes run very well on the same brand of volts and amps as my heli, both run clean with no problems of leaning out at the half tank mark

They don't have time to lean out
