    Ron not the new Wot4.....

To be honest I never did before but have started doing it since I moved in to fw as I try to rule out as many problems that I can't before I fly, but you can avoid them all.

TBH I don't think I've ever done it. Will do from now on in tho. Thanks for the post!

I'm with Steve - only when I set up a new model. Not saying it's right, just what I've been doing. This thread has been food for thought, though, so many thanks.

            Hi Ron,
Just had exactly the same problem with an Brand New AR500 in a Multiplex EasyStar. Did a range check and was only getting 15 paces before total loss of control. Sent it back to Horizon for testing and was told that they couldn't find any issues with it, but sent me another new one. I have yet to try this one.

Never ever done it. Never had a problem either but I guess it's one less thing to worry about. I'd probably do it once on a new model but certainly not before every flight unless going to a new field.

                Interesting thread.
The BMFA guidance is "good practice to carry out...at regular intervals, at least once every month or so" P30 of recent issue.

I always range check if I have changed anything electronic, like a servo, or messed around with TX settings. So realistically, works out about every time I go to the field, as I am not a frequent flyer. LOL

Not often as I should I ALWAYS range check a new model, or when changing the receiver, though I don't think I've ever periodically checked a model. I've only recently moved to 2.4, and I din't do it on 35Mhz, but in hindsight it probably would have been wise on analogue FM.

I've never felt so locked in since moving to 2.4, it's awesome.

I've always done with 35MHZ and done may be half-a dozen times with 2.4gig. But must admit, 2.4 gig being safer, very selective etc has made me a bit complaisant hence only a few times.

Thanks for the head up Ron - will do now more often.

Like a lot of others since going 2.4 I've only ever done it first time out with a new model or new bind. I think I will be doing it on the first flight of each day from now on!

I do it as a routine for three main reasons; First because the DX7 manual suggests a range check should be done before each flying session. Second is that it just seemed to be the proper procedure at one of the clubs I fly at and I got in the habit there. The other reason is that since I carry all my stuff to the field by hand on the train etc. I assume perhaps it all gets shaken around a bit more than it might otherwise (mainly talking about the TX in this case), so I feel I need to verify that everything functions as part of the pre-flight checks.

With the Spektrum TXs all you have to do is walk 30 paces (90 feet) away from the model and hold down the bind button and with the bind button held you should still be able to see all the controls working properly.
