  • I came,I spooled,I hovered!!!!!!

    ....with apologies to Julius Caesar.

Well Fellow Helicopterists I decided this morning to take my Blade Sr to work.
We have a Technical Day tomorrow which usually involves about 2 hours work and 12hrs standing by just in case we are needed.
Hence Heli goes to work so I can fly during slack time.
I have been going out on Clapham Common with Tiddler on occasion but have not really had the Sr hovering properly due to Dumbthumb Syndrome and Wind(provided by Mother Nature not myself,I hasten to add!!!!)
Have had a couple of hairy flights and crashes but nothing that you would call 'controlled' flying really..........
However after breakfast at work this morning I had to go through the dance studio that I use for flying to find it empty.....Whoopee

To cut a long story short I actually got my SR to hover.
Took a vid on my phone but do not have the correct lead to upload to my craptop. Will try to post evidence later on.

I must admit that I felt quite chuffed at what I achieved but this only serves to remind me just how far I have to go.
They say the longest journey starts with a single step.......I have just made that step.
Thanks to tiddler and trillian for their help and knowledge.
Must admit that it was much easier without having to deal with wind and the minute I sort out why the tail motor has stopped working I will be having another go.
Wonder if I will ever make it to 'SkyGod' status

Yay, Well done Mr Vice president New you could do it

But it does sound like you are yet another victim of the poor SR tail motor. There seems to have been a lot of it about recently http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/main-d...-blade-sr.html

Well done indeed. I have to say, I found that heli a bit of a handful in the wind so it takes some effort to tame that creature.

Hi Cookiebloke.......As tiddler can attest I am a bit short of time at the moment to pursue 'Helicopteristing' with the amount of gusto that I ideally would like to input into this fascinating addiction.....er ....hobby!!!!!

I have managed to hover a second BladeSR that I got with bundles of spares for a very reasonable price indeed.
Tiddler has very kindly soldered a replacement tail motor on to SR1 but I have been 'in charge' at work for the past few weeks and have not had the time to test it yet.

At the moment I am thinking that at some point I am going to bite the bullet and get some sort of 450....but that will be around september when hopefully a little bit of sanity and free time will re-enter my life.

Sorry I cannot be more specific.
If you have got Phoenix its a good idea to bash hell out of the SR.
I am finding it much easier to hover.

With hindsight I think I should have got a 450 in the first place.
              Anyway...good luck in your quest.

Although I think the SR is probably ideal for use in your dance studio

I've found that by increasing the headspeed, my SR is more capable of handling a bit of a breeze. Binding an SR to a DX6i is the best "mod" I can think of.....!
