  • The latest model or Fuel

I've been looking at certain posts on this forum and thinking how much money are some people willing to spend on this addiction and how much effort is spent perusing the "perfect heli". In my 2 months of actual flying I've flown contras, the "horrible" CPs like the honeybee and the twister, a Hirobo EVO, Raptor 90 and my two helis (Knight 3D and TREX). I can honestly say with the exception of the CPs, all the helis fly perfectly well and I could recommend to anyone.

Yeah sure there are certain annoyances I'm sure to all models, but in the end surely what's important in really learning a particualr model, the way it flies, it's setup and how to get the most out of it.

Granted if you are the calibre of top 3D flyers then you may really appreciate the difference, but otherwise I really don't see the point. Apart from shedding a ton of cash on the "latest" and "most innovative" which in the end will be superseded by the next.

Me.... well I'm going to stick with what I've got and when I can afford it maybe buy another one of the same. Until then I'm spend my money on FUEL and put real stick time in..... plus of course buying bits if I crash it.

Good idea, fuel and sticktime is all you need

Although sticking to one model is good for getting really tuned in to it ask Fixed wing fliers how many different types of plane they have,i bet none will say they have 2 or 3 identical models

I used to fly just raptors and it was boring

I intend to have two or three different makes, variety is the spice of life

You hit the nail on the head with the 3D flyers comment.
You don't need to be a top 3D flyer to notice the difference between heli's though. Competent flying will highlight differences/quirks/issues in any heli.

For many people though, fuel and stick time are the best things to spend money/time on

I have three very different models for three very different flying situations.

Shuttle for general flying at a proper flying site.
Trex for calm weather and when I cannot get to the site. (NOT my garden!!)
Bell 47 when the weather is totally cr@p to keep the thumbs in good order!!

Hope that this year the Trex won't get much of a look in and the Shuttle gets some serious abuse.

Maybe next year move onto a different air frame. Anyone know of a good 50 size Heli

        Cheers

          Hard one mate.
I'd go for fuel if my model was upto what my abilities were at that time. I myself have bought a raptor 50 SE, I have already owned 3 raptors & I felt it was better the devil you know. Time will tell if I've made the right descision or not & if I havent I will put the SE up for sale & buy something more suited to my style of flying.
Your only here once mate & I would rather fly something thats going to bring my heli flying along than something thats going to hold me back no matter what the cost is in fuel.

For some people, me included, the hobby is as much about tinkering and experimenting with different models as it is about flying them - mainly cos we don't get out and fly as much as we'd like I expect.

Not a lot to the 240.

You need to get the horn length right to get max travel as there is no adjustment on the unit but then you do that anyway...right?

There is no switch Tx side for changing from HH to Rate mode you have to land and flick a tiny switch on the gyro.

                It doesn't do DS mode

theres not a lot to set.

AVCS is on a dip switch as is reverse. the pot on the top sets the gain.

set it so that it doesnt drift in normal mode then experiment with different length servo horns to see what works the best as theres no limit adjustment this may mean you have some binding to get the best out of it.

Why not take a look at the instructions, I just google this http://www.futaba-rc.com/manuals/index.html

I have stuck with one heli as it allows me to devote more time into making it perfect rather than sorting this out on that heli and and upgrading that on the other heli.

I fly a Raptor Titan which is less than 20% Thunder Tiger and I love it to bits, every thing has been upgraded, not that it needed it all, but yes it does make it fly like a loony. I also have a 4S Trex which has top notch install in the way for electrics, that also flys like a loony.

I did have a lot of helis at one point but I got feed up of sorting all of them out so I decided one nitro and one electric micro (the contra rotating ones or picco Z don't count). I have always fancied a Trex600 (pack prices put me off) but may wait and get a Trex600N next year......there ain't no rush and I don't like flying the first batch of anything (not just RC) as that is were all the bugs are at.
