  • Hexes- here, there and everywhere!

My original hex set was the excellent T-RT625. Unfortunately one broke, so need to replace that, but that set now costs between £18 and £20.

I also want a second set of hex drivers, largely because removing feathering shafts needs two hexes.

Now, at the other end of the price scale (yes, on eBay) there are ridiculously cheap sets of Chinese origin. Somewhere between these two extremes have to be a good set at a reasonable price but, which one is the big question?

One great advantage of an excellent community such as rcheliaddicts is that you have a very wide range of experience and many willing helpers.

So please would anyone comment on which reasonbably priced set they have come across which, at the same time, is good quality. Yes, OK, you pays your money and takes your choice but there is still an awful lot of choice.

Thanks in advance for any helpful comment or suggestions.

I've not yet had a good cheap hex driver! The cheap ones I've tried round off quickly.
I decided to go the other way and invest in a set of Hudy drivers (£10 each when I bought mine and about £14 each now!), which so far have been excellent and have lasted ages. These too are not perfect, and I've had to replace a couple of tips now which have worn down.
Luckily, the EDS tips fit the Hudy handles, and are also good quality, but only £4 each (for the tip only).

I suggest you look at a set of EDS hex drivers as they should last a while!
    Cheers,
    Rob

+1 for Align - use on my Aligns and Raptor.

On the very cheap scale and fairly so so are the hex keys sold by model fixings.

Thanks Trillian, that's the same company I bought mine from. They have a shop called Podium RC in Shrewsbury, close to where I used to live.
I'm not sure oif the shop still carries any stock of them, but can obviously order them in... Personally, I'd get them ordered online if it's Hudy you want.

I also use the Align hex drivers. Being an Align "fan-boy" I've never tried them on any other fasteners tho.

Yeah I am definitely going to get at least the 1.5 and 2mm Hudys as those seem to be the most problematic on my helis.

I've built up a set of EDS drivers, most with my name engraved on them I've spent around £150 so far and have a full set of long hex drivers, a full set of short drivers plus nut spinners and screwdrivers. Quality is good but the 1.5mm tips can be a little fragile, then again so are most others. If you look at Schumakers website they import them.

The Align drivers are also pretty good quality with precision ground tips, beware of any sets where the tips aren't ground to size as they are likely to fit poorly.
