Had a big wake up call to the dangers of this hobby today :afraid: No harm done in the end, though by pure luck/chance than judgemnent.
Was flying down at my local field, had gone down with my eldest lad Ewan (6) to meet Phil T and see how he was getting on with his new N5
Had a few good flights with the 500 and a test hover of the N5.
Weather was glorious and had been pushing myself to fly a bit harder and out of my comfort zone as lately I have really felt that all around me are progressing and I'm stood still
Was enjoying myself but was being sensible flying high and far out particularly as my lad was present and is not a regular down the flying field.
Coming out of a backwards high speed circuit not quiet sure what I did but Phil thought I was attempting a piro wall of death :eeek:. Anyway not sure entirely what happened whether my tail servo failed, tail blew out or I lost orientation but I suddenly had a battle on my hands.
But this is the bad bit for some reason by mind just froze and instead of having a quick attempt at a recovery and then into throttle hold, I fought it. Primarily I believe because I was worrying where my son might be although I knew he was behind the flight line. In the end it rocketed past my left shoulder at full chat coming to rest some 20 metres behind me when it wacked into a steel cargo container with a very loud bang!

And yes that blade is firmly embedded on the container.
Thankfully Ewan was down the other end of the flight line as was Phil. It could of all been so different if I had been down at South Cheshire or Byley on a busy Sunday with a busy pits behind me
This has really shaken me up and has even briefly made me consider chucking the towel in on this hobby I enjoy so much
What has really got me is that I did not go for throttle hold, I just froze.
So I think going forward I am going to accept my limitations, I am not and will never be a capable 3D pilot so I am going to start to concentrate my efforts on being a smooth safe sport flyer, maybe even take a look at F3C as I have utmost respect for the skill and dedication that takes. Also think F3C flying would suit my flying style far more
Just wanted to get this out of my system and maybe let my case serve as an example of what not to do!
