I reckon it would be OK. The "..Glass Bead Thermistor On The Loop Probe sounds like the same probe as Carbsmart use to read head temperature.

Yeah, you wouldn't want it on the bottom plate anyway, I think you'd want the sensor somewhere near the head.

I recently got an HPI infrared temp guage and it is pretty much useless.

...and Sheryl is right, you'd want to locate it in the head, as close to the combustion as possible, between the 3rd and 4th, or 4th and 5th fins ideally.
Finless on Helifreak has a suggested mounting procedure in the Carbsmart installation vid. Bit messy, but works.

What I'm looking for is an accurate temp guage with a sensor you can just touch to the surface you want to measure but doesn't have to be permanently mounted.

                  It says RRP £18.44!

I was actually thinking of getting one of these as well.

Well advice I've read is that you should be looking for 100 degrees C when measuring on the cylinder wall, near where it meets the cylinder head -this would have to be measured immediately after doing some sustained high throttle flying e.g. large climbouts, power loops, tic tocs.

I'll have to have a look as well. What might be good is if it will retain the highest temp or better yet would be highest peak and average.

I brought the HPI temp gun out last time and it reads very low when pointed at the crankcase or base of the cylinder and only seemed to maybe get closer when pointed at the head but it's still just all over the place up and down and not showing more than about 70 degrees and that can't be right.
