  • Questions about spares

What spares would you class as essential:

This would be for a 450 sport

I am thinking about getting spares in the following:
    Main Blades
    Tail Blades
    Main Shaft Set
    Fly Bar + Spare Paddles

Is this enough for essential spares?

Or should also be thinking about any others:
    Spare Canopy
Tail Boom + Boom Brace + Tail Linkage
    etc...

    Any others?

Or as most places hold stock is it best just to stick with what I have listed and get any others as and when?

I was thinking with the items I have listed would get me back flying again in a small'ish spill where if the spill was any larger requiring any of the other spares it would probably put me out for the day anyway in which case just order them as and when.

    Thanks
    Alan

I would only buy thing you would replace at the field.

Gears, feathering spindle, mainshaft, maingear, boom...

..but everything else can be delivered next day if needed.

You want a set of the one piece links, some spare links and the metal rod set. sometimes they go missing.
Also get the L arms that go from the swash to the washout arms - whenever i go away on a trip I end up breaking one of those - they are in a cheap little packet of bits.

                boom
                boom stays
                Main and tail blades
                Main shaft bearings
                Main shaft
                flybars
                Main gear definitely.
                One way
Duct tape rather than a canopy unless you are a poser
feathering shafts seem to survive quite well now.
Paddles seem to survive and aren't often lost.
Tail shafts seem to last a while (queue me bending one soon).

Main gears and one way live a lot better once you are hot on the throttle hold!
However much you stock there will still be something broken that you don't have in a big crash.

Just order them when you need them ? Fastlads are my spares You could end up having £30 worth of spares sitting there for weeks, months even without needing them. Fastlads will usually deliver the next day so pretty quickish.

I never fancy repairing a heli at the field, would just rush it back in the air and miss something.

It's inevitable, but I think if I got both she would kill me.

I'd never thought about it how Simon said it, got some spares for my 450, but how much will I use at the field? Like you say probably none, will save my money next time and just order the parts that I need!!
                        Good thinking guys!!!!!

With my experience of crashing 450s, I'd say the following are worthy, otherwise order from suppliers online.
                          main blades
                          boom

                            I also agree with simon.

Also are you going to lug all these spares down the field every time you go flying. Best bet is to keep your eye out for a second heli.
