  • OS Hyper 50 Bogging on Descent

    Hi,

I have a os Hyper 50 with MD530 fuse on raptor 50 body

Main needle is 1 turn out

Low end needle as got line clockwise pointing straight up to top of heli pointing straight up main shaft

Heli flys fine and no engine problems until steep decent from high hover the heli splutters (scary).

My initial thoughts is that the bottom end it to rich?

    What could this be?

    Many Thanks,

    Jonny

    The problem is on descent

The bottom end needle should be at 12 O'clock (ish) with the carb barrel inlet. If it's in line with the mainshaft in a normally mounted engine, not familiar with yours it's extremely lean and 1 turn out seems lean also for the top needle. Mine are around 1.25 turns out in the Summer and around 1.5 turns in the Winter

I always just left the low needle on my 50 Hyper (the one that needs a screwdriver to change it right?) at the factory setting, which means it's pointing straight up the body of the carb, away from the crankshaft. Hope that makes sense!

I think wavedavey explained it a bit better while I was typing my reply! And yes, I would also have thought that one turn on the main needle is probably quite lean.

Hmmm, I would think if it is pointing straight up it would be very rich because that means it is turned anti-clockwise from the normal factory position.

The high needle sounds quite lean at only one turn out.

Yes your right but it's a slot that can look like it's pointing to being rich or lean if it's pointing up, or down IE parallel with the main shaft.

I'm a bit confused about your terminology because I would normally take "full shut" to mean turned fully clockwise and therefore fully lean.
