  • My first Heli injury

Had my first Heli related injury at the weekend!!

Not entirely sure what has happened, but I had been flying my Trex 450 on some simple circuits again(just up,down, round, hover etc). When through 5 lipos ok & was quite happy, so brought her down just a bit closer than usual. Hit the throttle cut for safety, then she just spooled up & veared as if on full airleon towards me. Apart from the near heart attack I flipped the thottle cut off(to reverse what had happened) but, too late still enough power to hit me. I got hit in the leg (just above my ankle) by a CF Rotor blade!!

Well I have a very purple foot & 2 'now glued' gashes above my ankle, very lucky really as it missed all my tendons etc!!

The only thing I've found is the DX6I had changed from 120 to 90 swash type, no reason for this whatsoever as she'd been flying ok & I always check the heli & tx before any flight!! Bizzare but painfull!!

Curious goings on in the DX6i. Glad you're not too badly injured tho. Just goes to show quite what a "small" 450 sized heli can do to a human eh?

Might have to rethink the DX6i then, just about to hand over a 450 to my son for his first tentative hops. Hope you fix quickly mate, could have been nasty!

Its certainly sore, but wont put me off......just cant believe how it happened. Might not be related to DX6I, but I will post any findings from Horizon Hobby. Def not the heli as my Gaui & Trex(after rebuild, just a feathering shaft!) have been tried on another TX today. Just odd how I flicked throttle cut & it went nuts, I had powered down & walked over, always hit throttle cut just in case, but it went bezerk!

isnt that to do with the settings for the throttle curve that has been programmed for hold?

Lets hope it's the last heli injury as well.

I'm not sure what to make of that but I have heard of a few cases where control was completely lost and in both cases it was an electric heli and it did not shut down as you would expect it to do if it went into its failsafe mode (I don't think thoses instances involved the DX6i though).
