  • storage charge facility

So ive noticed i have the 'storage' facility on my charger. how does this work?
i.e. how does it know what to charge to?
how is storage charging any different to charging a battery to its capacity like normal?

Storage charge brings the battery to a safe level, where it will neither become under, or over charged while you are not using it.

As you know, Lipos will become useless if you let a cell drop too low, or if you fully charge to 4.2 volts, and then the temperature changes which increases the charge beyond that.

It is a sort of safe, middle of the road charge level.

      my understanding was...
if im not going to use a battery for a long time, i would have thought if i did a normal charge i.e. 4.2v, this would take much longer to discharge to unsafe low levels than it would for if a battery if it was 'storage' charged to say 3.85v?

Correct, but if it is charged to 4.2 volts, and the storage conditions change, then the lipo voltage will change (lipos are sensitive to temp changes particularly) and they will over volt. Over voltage kills lipos as quickly as undervoltage.

ok mate, thanks for that. the world of charging lipos is a science in itself
