  • Nose in Hovering

After 6 months and 2 bad crashes finally managed about 2 minutes of nose in hovering last night. I really feel I am on the way to cracking it. Using 20% expo to tame the cyclics does seem to have helped. It is by far the hardst of maneuvers to learn and I hope in the future it will become second nature.

    Regards as always
    Paul

I can nose in with the mSR, but have yet to summon the b4lls to do it with my 600 at the field!!

Once you get it down well and feel comfortable you'll have a lot more freedom because there won't be any anxiety when doing a move that involves the heli getting nose-in.

There's like a point you reach that happens gradually and then it becomes 2nd nature and you don't even think twice about it. Then work on side-on in both directions.

Side on is pretty easy to do. Keep at it and you WILL get it cracked - well that is what I keep telling myself.

I did it at the field, buddied up to a Raptor 50, but it was when I was going to have a go with my 600, that the servo failed, causing my last "in".

It is a great feeling having the heli, planted, looking straight at you, especially when you have a camera on board

And, yes it gives you the confidence to do lots of things.

I have landed nose in twice now as well, although the last one was a bit heavy.
Life's a bitch and then you fly!!

Okay to learn nose in fly figure 8's

What you do is fly as normal figure 8's but as the helicopter approaches you and you turn out get used to seeing the helicopter nose in and always turn out either way because thats learning the escape route if it all goes wrong.

Now keep at the figure 8's and slow it all down and slow it down and then it stop's....

stops and you have nose in, get un-comfy just turn out and continue into the figure 8

Good lad, now the thing is to not get into the frame of mind of thinking yep cracked that then stop doing it in a rush to get on to things like aerobatics, doing that will come back to bite you.

Its tempting, but really practicing the basic orientations and really nailing them (to the point you can hover as long as you want in any orientation, and move it about exactly where you want it when you want) will pay dividends in the future, I've seen it time and again where people are in too much of a rush and once they've done something like nose in once or twice they then never touch it again, but go on to do aerobatics, which IMO is a bad idea because when they one day find themselves needing those basic orientations quick they're going to regret skipping/rushing them.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I found that for me there was a very strong handedness issue with side-on flying. I had no problem with left side in, or the heli coming from right to left but it felt quite uncomfortable hovering right side in or when the heli was flying from left to right but I finally broke through that barrier a while back.

I also make sure I keep swapping orientations so that "something unusual" will not surprise me, especially if I make a balls-up [ that should have read "when" not "if" ].

                            nose in

i was taught the easy way to nose in hover is follow the heli with the cyclic stick, its so easy and bryll!,
heli comes towards you /move the the cyclic towards you.
heli goes away from you .move the cyclic away from you ,same with left & right move ments, try it it,s easy! after a while.happy flying nose in.
when you decide a nose in landing do not mess about pick your spot and land it!.
