  • Had Enough Of Today

Will keep this as short as possible but thus far:

Not able to fly this morning as I'd left my "Y" Connector at work so couldn't link my lipo's, attended the Thames Valley show this morning and bought some bullet connectors to make a new one!

Within an hour of getting to the show I got a migraine so headed home early, laid in dark room for several hours before making a new "Y" connector so I could get out flying.

For the past three weeks or so I've had varying degrees of tail shake that's been driving me round the bleeping bend, changed and checked everything multiple times and still it shakes!

So having made further adjustments I took my 700E up again to see the usual tail shakes taunting me, it appeared worse when applying power?

Was checking this fact when the heli made a sharp "Screeching Noise" about forty feet up which I assumed was the main gear stripping, alas the incident was so severe one of the rotor control rods came off allowing the blade to flap around uselessly in the air!

The heli glided to earth with the grace of a dozen house bricks managing a break a radix blade on impact

I picked up the sad mess and immediately smelt something very odd, Yep my Kontroniks Pyro 30-12 was dead, seized solid and hot too!

So I think I now know what was causing my vibe problems "Yippee"!

Took the motor out and can clearly see the shaft is no longer vertical, reckon the insides of the motor have disintegrated

What a bloody great day this was

Sorry to hear of your tales of woe, John. Is this repair likely to be costly? Sound as tho it may be? What else was damaged in the fall?

As the motor alone costs over £200 I am guessing it is going to be a costly repair.

Feel for you John, there is nothing worse than a crash due to mechanical failure, at least if you dumb thumb it you are to blame.

Hope you get her fixed and in the air again soon.

Yeah you could say it was an expensive failure motor is £260 and the Radix blades are £80, all this for a damn tail vibration, I'd changed and checked everything and couldent find the source!

They forecast rain for this area tomorrow and you know what I don't care cause I'm grounded

Hey ho the garden needs a watering

Sorry to hear that John. On the bright side it was probably the motor that was causing the bad vibes so perhaps once replaced/repaired that horrid wag will be gone. Just the bit in the middle where you need to spend your hard earned that is annoying now. Hope you get her sorted and working as you want soon.

Cheers Dan & thanks to one and all that have passed on their comments, just seems when you think you've seen everything that can happen something new bites you in the arse

And as for you Dan what's all this nonsense about turning your fellow fliers to the dark side I saw them today walking away from the air show carrying dare I say it "PLANKS"

Cheers guys now looking at a replacement motor and a remortgage

Not a great day for you mate, I would look into getting a Scorpion motor to replace it, although I know Kontronik are the best, Scorpion do great at a much cheaper price. The same can't be said about both their ESC's though!!

Yep, haha, Jack turned to the dark side...

Haha, nothing to do with me guv'nor! Dan actually has been into planks for years and he got me interested. He has a few nitro one's in his loft that will be resurrected soon. I'm still a heli lover through and through.

Jim thanks for the info but I have to admit I purchased the 700E complete about six months ago from another pilot, I'm guessing it's a couple of years old so it just expired!

It's just another (Expensive) lesson about things to look out for or consider if you get a tail vibration you can't stop!!!!

I've had contact with Kontronik recently but I think this motor is a bit beyond 1st Aid

Live & learn as they say
