  • The cost of progress :(

    Was just over £132 today

I've had about 40 minutes a day at least of actual in the air time over the last week and it was going great, so I did my first ever back flip- it was a bit messy, but happened with no drama. I landed to allow my sweaty palms to dry off and let my heart rate settle.

Tried it again- another successful one.

    I should have stopped there.............

Not sure what happened, but I came out of it way too low ( despite starting high) and hammered into the ground The only saving grace was the battery was disconnected in the impact, so no rabid chicken dances.

    Shopping list was

    New carbon frame (
    New blades
    Flybar
    Tail boom
Torque tube ( the actual gears were fine and seem pretty robust)
    Landing gear ( all)
    Mainshaft
    Main body extras
    A few linkage sundries.

The canopy will need some araldite, but is servicable.

Well- someone said to get the first crash out of the way, which I have dutifully done

I got the heli mostly stripped down at lunchtime, so ready for the bits tomorrow- the main problem was the frame breaking, meaning pretty much a total rebiuld- serves me right I suppose for buying it ready assembled from Sav :P

Looking forward to seeing it I can get it done for the weekend.

I am however impressed at how robust the heli seems given the crash.

Yeah, seems like the skids came out of it well...

But seriously tho, tough luck on the crash. Got the bits ordered yet?

lol- a few bits came out OK, and looking on the bright side I did not break any of the tail rotor gear.

Yep - bits ordered and on the way.

The landing gear actually got stuck in the ground and the heli got back in the air for a few metres leaving the gear behind, a bit like you see on Phoenix crashes lol

Sorry to hear about the crash mate, but on the plus side you will find out what its like to build one up from scratch nearly.
I very nearly binned mine today, started to get a bit more adventurous flying around if it hadn't been for a big handful of throttle or should I say thumbful of throttle I would have been looking at new blades etc.

        Cheers
        Chris.

About a year ago I had a big crash like that with my 500. I wasn't even flipping it or anything exciting - just got too far away, lost orientation and guessed wrong. It hit the ground so hard I heard the thud and one blade was buried inches into the ground and needed a good tug to break it free. It was really a write-off - the rebuild cost was only a few pounds less than a new kit.

              Alex,

OUCH!! Sorry to see that mate, however, good on you for trying. Like the man says, if you ain't crashing - you ain't trying

Fortunately my only mishap so far is a broken landing strut when landing with a bit too much enthusiasm! Having said that my spares box is ready and waiting.......

              Good luck with the re-build.

              Cheers,
              Simon

Unlucky mate, and sad to see the frames have gone.
Be carefull when undoing the screws, expecially on the main shaft bearing blocks and tail unit, they have a habit of rounding off the sockets.
I would also change one at a time, then you won't have bits everywhere

frames is a big job, just been rebuilding my 500. been an expensive one for me, but ive also added some wanted upgrades and got a fair number of spares.

hope it all goes back together quickly and easily for you.
                    All the best

it's not nice to see photos like this, but so long as the re-build go's ok and you get back in the air then you cant ask for any more.

And just think there will come a time when you have nailed these flips, and you will look back on this crash and laugh about it trust me I know.
