Anything can be a pain when it plays up. One of my 450's just dropped out of the sky last time out. It's either the ESC or the rx and it's grounded now until I can troubleshoot it.

      two more thoughts:
      - you'll probably have seen lots of .90 nitros that are flown on a daily basis, but very few if any electric (note, "fly on a daily basis", not simply owning one - I own one but it gets rarely used because of the hassle with the chargers). The risk of succeeding with nitro is probably much lower than with electric, that is, close to 0 % if you do your homework: We all know that nitro works, but electric is still relatively unproven
      - I don't know how much hassle it is to change battery packs in a 700 nowadays. But don't underestimate the extra work, in addition to everything else.

24 V and icharger sounds like a great idea if electric.

        As Ben has put it.

People could go on and about pro's and con's ( what ever )

But it's really down to what you think you'll be happy with at the end of the day.

This model is a T-Rex 700 using a 400kv motor. The gearing is set to allow for a 2100 headspeed. The motor is producing about 4HP which as you know is about 1/2 HP more than a 91. The model is lighter than the nitro so the power to weight ratio is way better than the nitro.

For up front costs of course it is massively expensive compared to nitro but once you have the gear you have the gear. A bit like having to get a flight box for the first time for a nitro.

With 4 packs you should be able to fly the first pack and get it on charge and then after flying the next 3 packs the first should just about be ready to go again.

The model will not require anywhere near the same amount of maintenance as there will be none of the vibration issues associated with nitro.

A pack costs about £135. There is no way of knowing how many cycles you will get from it but any over about 43 will make the pack cheaper than the eqivalent amount of fuel 20% Rapicon at £19 for 4 litres and about 6 flights from that.

You wont be wasting fuel getting the engine tuned so that is another plus for electric. I have seen people me included go through a couple of tanks just trying to get the engine running perfectly. Add the cost of a glow plug or two and electric is getting even better.

By using two liesure batteries (110 Ah) in series with something like the iCharger 208 you should be good for 15 to 20 charges of 12S 5000mAh packs.

I have nitro at present but looking to go "gay" in the very near future. lol.
Good info here, can you expand a bit on the packs used, are they single 12s packs or paired 6s ones?

Also on the leisure battery setup for charging.I currently use an 85ah battery and the Cellpro 10 charger and i can normally get 3 charges into a 6s 5000 before the input voltage is too low for the charger.

Asking because i am genuinely considering a 700E as i love the 700N and the 500/600 Logos so a 700 electric is appealing but charging at the field is one of the negatives in the decision process.

          Cheers

The machine Andy is talking about is an absolute monster, I'm sure he uses 6S packs together. The guy flying it is the club engine expert, if you've got a problem tuning he can hear it a mile off, a couple of clicks here and a tweak there and he has you running. But' he got fed up with the constant tinkering with his 700's and decided to give the dark side a go. He swears he'll not go back, we're lucky we have a genny but he's using leisure batteries also. A beautiful machine, so much so it would convert me if I weren't so hetro.

The batteries are the Turnigys 6S 5000mAh. Two wired in series for the flight pack. The batteries are then charged in parallel on an iCharger 208b.

When the generator is running a 30volt 30 amp psu is used. This allows for two battery packs, that is actually 4 x 6S, to be charged. When using a leisure battery, two batteries are used to supply 24 volts. By matching the input voltage to the output voltage the current taken from the leisure battery is approximately, a bit more in reality, what the charger shows it put back into the pack.

The CP10S wont give its best unless the input voltage is at about 15volts. When you try to charge a 6S 5000mAh battery remember the charger has to multiply the input voltage and therefore it takes approximately 10 Amps from the input source.
